Not sure about this lad. Seems to be an excellent Seconds player but never really steps up (albeit that incredible 100 on debut)

Saw him speaking at Merseyside Cricket Society last night. No mind blowing news but thought he came over very well as a nice young man.He was saying how helpful he had found Ashley Giles to him and the young players when a journalist asked him why he thought it had gone wrong for Giles at the ECB. He said he wasn’t close enough to that situation to know.
He felt that one day cricket had been good for him in giving him more freedom. He also said that whilst being happy to bat anywhere for Lancashire, he would love a settled position in the side.

He spoke at the West Lancs Cricket Soc the previous evening. He gave a good account of himself and was quite impressive. I hope he can make it but it will have to be soon

I reckon a settled place in the batting line up is important for all batsmen, but particularly younger, less experienced players. Gives them a chance to get accustomed to situation, circumstance and role. I imagine familiarity in batting and running with the same players can be helpful.
I suspect he might miss out on the starting line up and be coming into the team for injury/loss of form to others.

Whats the excuse for today ? The lad is just not good enough full stop. The only notable innings I can remember him playing this year was the 60 odd in the win against Warwickshire which helped us to victory. For me I would sooner see George Bell and George Lavelle picked as batsmen ahead of him.

Yes Rob Jones played a great innings yesterday. I watched him score his first 30 runs on the live stream and thought he played exactly the type of innings which was required and played positively. However it is six years since he made his debut and has not been able to establish himself in the side and has not been consistent enough in my view. As pointed out by Denno he only averages 27 in first class cricket.
Both Croft and Vilas are coming towards the end of their careers. I think they are both 37. We need to be looking towards the future and I think Bell and Lavelle are the best options we have to replace them in the middle order and should be given opportunities. There is also the risk that they will move on to another county if they think they will get more first team cricket. Brooke Guest seems to be scoring plenty of runs for Derbyshire, I doubt he regrets his decision to leave Lancashire.

Did I see Rob Jones on crutches after the game? Anything said or announced? Or is it an official secret that one ever present in the RL50 first team member suddenly on crutches?
Ken Grime didn't use the word Jones at all in his "report". What a joke!

He turned his ankle in the warm up. He was due to play and it was Morley that replaced him.
Williams and Bailey said to have back problems although Bailey was in the squad for this game.
Wonder if we can get any of them back for Tuesday?

Jones came in at 168/6 with 7 balls left 20 runs needed off 7 balls. With Mitchell at the other end going at more than a run aball. His job was to give Mitchell the strike. He could have kept Mitchell off strike, and chewed up all 7 balls.
Plenty else going on e.g.
Captain managed 7 of 13 balls.
Surrey 25 off last two overs Lancs 15.
Lancs 94/1 off 10 overs, Surrey 93/1
