Well batted Rob Jones. I was wrong. I did once see him score a century for the 2nds at Blackpool, along with Brooke Guest(remember him?), to achieve a run chase so perhaps he likes Blackpool. I think the game situation helped him as it freed him up, allowing him to play his shots without fear of getting out. I'd like to see him make a score in the 1st innings, to set a match up, but he always looks a bit tense. As somebody said, he's never been given a proper prolonged run in the side, so probably feels he always has to prove himself. Even when he scored that century as a makeshift opener against Middlesex, who I think were county champions that year, it didn't prompt a prolonged run in the team. Maybe we'd have a seen a better, more consistent player, if the management had shown some confidence in him at that time.
Hope they are not going to make the same mistake with Balderson. He should have played in this match.

Jones Balderson and Bell should play all the games in the championship now. What are we learning playing struggling overseas players instead?
We can't win it and middlesex and northants are pretty poor and will be the two to go down.

8 years is a long time has he ever been given a settled run in the team? Played the whole of the 2019 season: 624 runs at 36.71 - one century and 4 half centuries (2nd division, before anyone else says it)

Yes, Chris beat me to it.
Full first-class games:-
2016: 4 2017: 3 2018: 6 2019: 14 2020: 3 (short Covid season) 2021: 9 2022: 5 2023: 2 so far
In 2021, his other substantial season, he averaged just over 18.

Interesting. And then 2020 was covid and so the season was disrupted and so he probably didn't get a chance to try and kick on.

Turned down the offer of a new contract at Lancs - understandably: at age 27 doesn't want more hokey-cokey treatment in a club that doesn't have a discernible development policy.

This is a shame with Croft and Vilas nearing the end of their careers I thought there was a place for him in the team. Our squad is starting to look very depleted.

Sounds like his departure could be imminent, from the Lancashire website:
“We have taken the decision that Rob won’t feature in our First Team plans for the rest of this season - as we focus on players who will be at the Club next season and beyond. Discussions are ongoing between Lancashire and Worcestershire as to what the remainder of Rob’s season entails"

Can't blame the lad. Jake Libby has done well at Worcester after a similarly in and out career at Notts.

Good luck to him but never good enough for me. Certainly not for a team wanting to challenge at the top end of Div 1. Plenty of players leaving and surely Vilas and Croft to follow at the very least. One or two proven players coming in from other Counties or full on youthful revolution next season?

Little surprised but pleased for him that he scored a 100 in his last innings. Clearly started Chapple and Chilton wanted to keep him:
Chilton: “Both Glen and I were very keen to keep Rob at the Club, offered him what we believe to be an excellent two-year deal and made it clear that we saw him as an important part of our plans moving forward."
Coaching staff will certainly need a plan B over the winter.
Don't mind if we recruit better players but hope they don't return to the some of the signings a decade-ish ago some of which were very underwhelming.
