If you discount overseas and players likely to be at the IPL we might start next season like this: Jennings, Wells, Bohannon, Croft, Bell, Balderson, Lavelle, Hartley, Bailey, Blatherwick, Williams.

Jones leaving, especially before the end of the season, does sort of support the rumour of an unhappy dressing room. We've got to sign a spinner - not sure Lavelle or Baltherwick are automatic 1st team picks...still who else have we...

Wow, surprised he's gone but don't blame him. Seems like Chilton and Chapple expected him to stay and are now throwing their toys out of the pram by wanting him gone sooner rather than later, like with Parky and Lamb.

Too right, Mickey. Actually wanting to leave Lancs, as opposed to being chucked out whenever it suits the management, is something which Chapple can't really comprehend. As Des regularly reminds us, Chapple hasn't spoken to Steven Mullaney since the day he quit Lancs, where he was getting very little 1st team action, to follow an extremely successful career at Notts.

Difficult not to notice the difference in tone from Chilton about Jones' departure from the terse statement about Parky's. Confirms a fallout with Parky and that we won't be seeing Parky & Lamb in the one-day trophy. Can't be too confident about a club which sees Blatherwick as the future.

Re Oldham Exile’s post re next season, notice Saqib not mentioned. I think that is probably right . Extremely sad but just leave him out of plans and anything else is a bonus.

Playing for Worcestershire in 50 over cup Makes sense as it does for Parky going on loan to Kent. If Lancs aren't going to pick them there career's are in limbo until next season, it is better for them to start playing for their new counties. Good luck to them!

How does going "on loan" work in cricket? Will Worcs be paying Jones wages for the duration of the one day cup?

I think that is how it works mickeyg . I can understand it when they are going there next season and don’t really object. I do think the loan system has got out of hand however and just erodes the integrity of teams and competition especially when you have players playing for different teams in different competitions.
I guess my use of the word “integrity” exposes an old dinosaur.

How the FOOK was he picked for the team in the 20/20 ahead of hurst aspinall and lavelle unreal . That's the Lancashire way. It has always been the case that sides have apparently been picked on seniority. The only difference is that now because of the franchise cricket members and supporters get to see the 19 year olds play as they have to be selected for the first team. Previously only the few who watch the seconds would have heard of those kept waiting and waiting.

Chilton is paid to oversee the structure that develop cricketers (male and female) for Lancashire CCC. The kind of structures which have led to players like Hurst, Aspinwall and Lavelle you mentioned in the previous post. He may line manages Chapple these days. (Or it may be done by committee, who knows)
Chapple is paid to run the first team, coach it, select it and take complete responsibility for it.
I was only replying to give context to those selections not to defend them. Whilst it is true that Chapple has selected Jones ahead of players like Hurst, Aspinwall and Lavelle he may or may not be following orders, he may be simply following tradition and the way things were when he was playing. Neither of us are ever likely to which. It's easy to champion Aspinwall, for example, after today and Sunday, some on here have suggested he should have been playing before now.
Interesting listening to Allott on commentary today he clearly demonstrated he not that much interested in past players for example Liam Hurt.
