Loughborough MCC University (previously known as Loughborough University Centre of Cricketing Excellence) is a cricket coaching centre based at Loughborough University in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England, and the name under which the university's cricket team plays. The former Loughborough University Centre of Cricketing Excellence played 27 first-class matches from 2001 to 2009. As Loughborough Marylebone Cricket Club University, the team has played fourteen first-class matches from 2010 to 2015. Off we go to our ultimate aim of finishing third in Division 2 this should be a fill your boots game but suspect Loughborough will be a lot better than the other MCCU sides we could play forcast is not brilliant but the season is now almost upon us.

Even if someone scores a double hundred and takes 20 wickets, it will hardly be mentioned.
Who will play?
Will Onions or Mahmood play? Both went on to the UAE and did not play a single match. Assume Captain Vilas will be on a flight today or tomorrow after playing at Centurion yesterday. Will Hameed open or just fill in for Livingstone?
Jennings, Davies, Guest, Hameed, Jones, Bohannon, Vilas, Bailey, Parry, Gleeson, Onions

Why isn't this a FC game Chris? I thought all University games were?
Incidentally was Mahmood definitely with the squad in the UAE then? If that is the case why on earth didn't he play?

Why isn't this a FC game Chris? I thought all University games were? Incidentally was Mahmood definitely with the squad in the UAE then? If that is the case why on earth didn't he play? In someone's infinaite wisdom, they decided that only the first two games played by the Universities would be first class. Unlikely to increase that now, more likely make them all meaningless.
IIRC, at the time, there used to be a habit of spreading out their games so that a couple were at the start of the season and a third one might be a little later after the counties already had a few championship games under their belt and were liable to rest half their first team - if they were not totally out of form.
Then they changed the fixture schedule so that the universities would play 3 games in less than a forthnight at the very start of the season. Maybe they thought the students would be tired! More likely they just forgot and left the ruling based on limiting the students' first class matches rather than change it to being first class if it were the first class counties first game of the season (and therefore likely to be a strong side, rather than gift second team squad players first class debuts).

Davies goes early for a single figure score.
But the good news is he was bowled by Lancs Seconds bowler Chris Sanders.
Tom Lawson ex-academy and also a regular in our seconds last year also playing for the students.
Plenty of banana skins ahead against our young bowlers with points to prove (as we need Footitt, rather than our own players).
Mahmood not playing so probably not fit.

Lancs Side:
Keaton Jennings Alex Davies(wk) Haseeb Hameed Glenn Maxwell Dane Vilas(c) Rob Jones Brooke Guest Josh Bohannon Graham Onions James Anderson Mark Footitt
Didn't realise Tom Lawson was playing for the Students, he plays for my club Burnley in the Lancs League.

Lancs lose two wickets in 2 balls as Maxwell is dismissed for 37 (53) and Guest goes first ball.
Collapse on the cards?
However Hameed is still there on 80* from 161 balls, batted for 3 hours now. Is he back?!

HH nearing a ton. Don't care who it is against or even if it's not first class, just delighted to see him hitting the middle again. Interesting that he isn't opening either, a sign of things to come??

Interesting that he isn't opening either, a sign of things to come?? Whilst it is good news, we do have to remember that two of the students' bowling attack are on the radar of our coaching staff, but not to the extent that they don't think they need another veteran 33 year old to join an attack that already includes Onions, Anderson and Gleeson (plus Parry and Croft). Can't wait to hear this squad being called youthful.
