This was an excellent bank holidays entertainment watched by a good 200 people I would’ve said. There was also a beer festival and catering. The beer was plastic glasses only so I didn’t bother. No county players on view but some real stalwarts of the local league. Ashraf Nawab, an SLA who has taken over 1000 wickets in the Premier League Boards bowled through the Wallasey innings though without the fascinating variation I’ve seen from him in the past.

On Saturday I had watched another competition stalwart David Snellgrove, son of Lancashire’s late Ken roll back the years admittedly not against great opposition with an unbeaten 50 having come in at one for two. Also an excellent all-round performance by John Dotters, once of our Academy.

“Ormskirk are through to the semi finals of the Royal London Club Championship and are enjoying a much more enjoyable coach journey home than they did at the corresponding stage last year when they went to Richmondshire and thanks to the rain, were subjected to a 10 over thrash and beaten by the blade of Leigh's Mattie McKiernan.

This time around, they travelled to the ground with Richmondshire as reigning champions and played a full game.

After starting slowly, Ormskirk reached 194-6, Gary Knight top scoring with an unbeaten 79.

Richmondshire opener Gary Pratt, he's the same Gary Pratt that ran the Aussies ragged as England super sub in 2005, hit 73 as they finished on 183-9 with Scott Lees taking 3-38.

So it's off to Nantwich next Sunday for the semi final.

Bootle v Formby

Sam Oldham has faded a bit as the season went on but his 38 here was over 40 per cent of his team’s total. Ben Aitchison 5-1-9-1 including the wicket of Will Hale who has had a moderate season in what now looks a pretty certain Bootle championship; the first for a few years. With the last fixture being at bottom of table Lytham, it could hardly be a better finish .

Ormskirk v Leigh

Another outstanding all-round performance by Danny Lamb whose 17-6-39-5
included the cheap wickets of George Lavelle and Tyler McGladdery. However, with Tom Hartley’s 34 off 102 balls the tail scrambled enough together to keep Ormskirk just in contention mathematically.

Lamb scored 73 off 82 balls with eight fours and two sixes but with nobody else including Matt McKiernan contributing much it was not enough, Hartley taking 9 – 1–31 -2

Rainhill v Lytham

Luke Proctor for once failing to score many for Rainhill but it didn’t matter and Toby Lester seems to have taken a bit of stick with 11-1-51-2. Lester did take 3 for around 25 for Lytham last week ; the score was very late being posted. Stephen Croft 7– 0–19-0. Lytham put up an abysmal reply with Croft opening with 25, Leicester scoring nine and Zelem’s most wretched season giving further misery; batting at number six, scoring two.

Southport v Northern

Southport’s 78 seemed unlikely to trouble Northern although with the incredibly consistent SLA, Tom Sephton having done the damage, there was always the chance that Gary Keedy could do the same. Taylor Cornall’s 31 off 36 balls with three fours and a six, did just enough.
