Trafalgar Road Ground is a cricket ground in Southport, Merseyside. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1956, when the Lancashire Second XI played Cheshire in the Minor Counties Championship.[1] In 1959, the ground held its first first-class match when Lancashire played Worcestershire in the County Championship. From 1959 to 2017, the ground played host to 44 first-class matches, the last of which came in the 2017 County Championship between Lancashire and Middlesex.[2] The ground has also held List-A matches, the first of which saw Lancashire play Glamorgan in the 1969 Player's County League. From 1969 to 1987, the ground held 4 List-A matches, the last of which saw Lancashire play Scotland in the 1987 Benson and Hedges Cup.[3] With the first recorded match on the ground in 1956 involving the Lancashire Second XI, the ground has since held a combined total of 25 Second XI fixtures for the Lancashire Second XI in the Minor Counties Championship, Second XI Championship and Second XI Trophy.[4][5] In local domestic cricket, the ground is the home venue of Southport & Birkdale Cricket Club.[6] who play in the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition. In February 2016, the Club signed a three year staging agreement with Lancashire to host county cricket, which is believed to be the first of its kind in England and Wales. 2ND Team game v Nottinghamshire 28/6/21 to 1/7/21

I am absolutely fuming over the lack of proper second team and minor counties cricket or whatever the sleazy suits call it nowadays. After the Scarborough debacle , I’m just resigned again to another empty season.

12 second x1 championship games of which 1 only in June July Sept with 2 in August.
Half the fixtures are notts durham or Yorkshire.
No 50 over competition at all.
I don't see how they can judge a players progression over a season. If they get injured in April and may they virtually miss the season.
How do bowlers get enough over to develop. I only hope its a short term thing linked to smaller clubs finances and staying in hotels etc. It seems very short sighted if this is the future.

Match Abandoned positive Covid test in the Lancashire team begs the question why have they not had the vaccination

They may have had. Andrew Marr got Covid at G7 despite being double vaccinated. It doesn’t stop you getting it or passing it on, it just greatly reduces hospitalisations and deaths. Was half thinking of going in the afternoon today; silly me to think I might actually see some proper cricket.

As you say Admin, really strong team Notts had out. Well done to Liam Hurt for getting both Hameed and Slater last night. All meaningless now sadly.
Lyndon James in Notts team really impressed me at Aigburth several years ago and has done well in the first team this season.

In regards to whoever caught the bug would assume entire 2nd XI would have to self isolate although could be wrong on that. Think they have another 4 dayer at Southport in September so you've still a chance of seeing some cricket

I agree Des, I saw that clip of Andrew Marr asking where he had simply been unlucky or what.
I wonder when the test took place? Before arrival or after arrival at S&B? Either way, I guess the club will have to do a second "deep clean”
Balderson presumably drops out of the first team squad from last weekend.
if it’s 10 days self-isolation, presumably they will cancel the seconds match v Warwickshire next Monday claiming they can’t raise a team.
Wonder if Hameed will have to miss Notts championship match on Sunday?
Lancs lucky Bohannon wasn’t playing!

Not seen the 2nd XI play for a couple of years at least. I thought Shah did well last year, but he seems to have been short of runs this year. Trouble watching the clips on NVplay.com is that they only show the 4s, 6s and wickets, thus it’s very difficult to judge but Shah at least seems to want to play “proper” cricket strokes. Bell has probably done as well, if not better than anyone else uncontracted.
Not sure of Burrows, Moulton or Hurt’s contract situation but Gleeson only has a three year contract to 2021. Sadly, I wonder whether it will be extended as we have seen so little of him due to injury in 2 of those 3 years.
