The Red Rose are into the late season top group in the LV= Insurance County Championship and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Vitality Blast.
Despite missing almost a couple of handfuls of senior players due to the Hundred, Mark Chilton and co are confident of success in a competition which will have a new look this summer.
All counties have been affected by Hundred call-ups to varying degrees, making the winner of the RL50 difficult to predict.
But, with the depth of talent available, Lancashire will start amongst the favourites. They warmed up with a commanding friendly victory over National Counties side Cumbria at Sedbergh on Tuesday, a game in which the hosts racked up 383-7 built around 103 from opener Keaton Jennings.

Sussex view
Sussex Sharks begin their Royal London Cup campaign on Friday, taking on Lancashire in Group A against the picturesque backdrop of Sedbergh School.
With no one-day competition last summer as a result of the pandemic, it will be the Sharks’ first taste of List-A cricket in over two years (although the team enjoyed a 50-over friendly against Oxfordshire earlier this week).
Much has changed since then, with Will Beer the only player from the team that took on Glamorgan on 7th May 2019 in contention for a spot in the eleven for Friday’s opener.
A 12-man squad has been named for the fixture, with a focus on the club’s strategic aim of developing its young homegrown players with the support of some experienced professionals.
Tom Haines will captain the side throughout the competition as a means of growing his leadership skills and experience.
Ravi Bopara, George Garton, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Phil Salt, Delray Rawlins, Ollie Robinson and Luke Wright are all away with their respective teams in The Hundred.
Jack Carson is currently involved in the County Select XI fixture against India at Emirates Riverside.
Jamie Atkins (right shoulder) and Mitch Claydon (right shoulder) are unavailable through injury. Jofra Archer continues a managed return from elbow surgery and has is not travelling with the squad for this fixture.

Tom Haines (captain), Will Beer, Oli Carter, Tom Clark, James Coles, Henry Crocombe, Travis Head (overseas, Australia), Dan Ibrahim, Archie Lenham, Ali Orr, Joe Sarro, Harrison Ward
Lancashire
Lancashire warmed-up for the Royal London Cup with a 209-run win against Cumberland at Sedbergh on Tuesday. Centurion Keaton Jennings received support from captain Dane Vilas, Luke Wells and Rob Jones who all made fifties as Lancashire racked up 383 for 7 batting first. Wickets were shared around as Cumberland were dismissed for 174 in reply. Wells picked up 3 for 17 from his 6.3 overs to round off a fine day for the ex-Sussex man.
The Red Rose County have eight players away at The Hundred. Jos Buttler, Alex Davies, Richard Gleeson, Tom Hartley, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Parkinson and Luke Wood are all involved in the new tournament.
Lancashire’s overseas player for the Royal London Cup, Indian batmsan Shreyas Iyer, has been ruled out of the competition through injury.

It will be a good pitch, suspect a fair few runs will be scored.
Gleeson has been relieved of his franchise contract, he was in Sedbergh on Tuesday. This is because he's still recovering from his injury so unlikely to feature for Lancs.
By way of comparison I estimate: Sussex have 9 in various franchises, Kent & Lancashire 7, Middlesex 6, Durham & Worcester 5, Gloucs and Hants 4 and Essex 2 (Lawrence and S Cook). Which in my book makes Essex favourites. Essex confident enough to loan Chopra to Middlesex for the RL50.
Overseas wise: Bancroft, Bedingham (Durham), Vilas (Lancashire), Harmer (Essex), Head (Sussex), Kuhn (Kent), Abbott (Hampshire) will play. Not sure of others yet.
No doubt that will all change when the first franchise player is injured.

Has Tom Aspinwall left Sedbergh School yet? Surely, he’s only in the squad ahead of, say, Ed Moulton because of the venue.

Young Aspinwall was our representative in the county select squad that just played India. Seems they rate him. Right handed all rounder only 17.
Balderson drops out - injured? They wouldn't tell us. What's the harm in telling us. Are our next opposition worrying about him?
A few experienced batsmen available so no opportunity for Shah. Will he go back to Scotland or try his luck elsewhere? Not sure Moulton is that rated.
Sussex have a young squad but are really pushing them forward these last two seasons and are getting some rewards from that policy.

I’m not surprised that they are looking at Tom Aspinwall, as I said earlier first saw him against the Academy in 2018 when he was very young. Looked a prospect then. But I am not sure why they selected him for the County Select game. He was never going to play considering the level of players other counties were selecting. 3 days of dressing room experience I guess, as it today. Also would like to see him deliver more for Kendal who are struggling a bit in the Northern League, if he’s that good! But give him another couple of years. Sadly passed Cumbria by.

Sussex teenagers making Lancs look silly and getting far more out of the pitch than any of our bowlers did. Lancs probably paying the penalty for underestimating the Sussex side.

Never in doubt probably experience won that game against a young side, the Sussex youngster Danny Ibrahim seems to be a good prospect

Well when you get in the car to drive home knowing the score is 115 for 7 and then read the Lancs Twitter to see you’ve won that is, to put it mildly, a bit of a surprise.
Well done to all concerned: a great rescue job from Lamb and Bailey.

An excellent job by Lamb and Bailey who spared the blushes of some of their team-mates. I felt sorry at the end for those Sussex youngsters who looked understandably dejected to have a well-earned win slip away – six teenagers, only two players over 22 but they outplayed an experienced Lancashire side for 75 per cent of the match.

Yes - a moral victory for Sussex, who just lacked the experience to cope with the desperate late onslaught. Complacency nearly did for Lancs, who seemed to think that all they had to do was turn up to beat a bunch of teenagers. The Lancs bowling was tidy at best and lacked penetration and their batting was careless in the extreme. Hopefully, this will wake them up.
