Chris is absolutely right that Lancs have been affected worse than Durham (and also worse than Essex) but that doesn't explain our awful tactics in the last two games. It was quite noticeable today that Borthwick made sure to use up Rushworth's overs well before the end and that he kept his spinners going deep into the innings. Bailey seemed to be captaining by numbers, just as Chilton used to do. The obvious stand-in captain is Croft.

The Blundred has affected us badly and now Jennings is injured it's a weak side. Don't think Bailey has done great as captain either, shouldn't have taken himself off v Middlesex when they were struggling and poor today. All counties have been weakened by the Blundred and the absence of Jennings made little difference today. It was our performance in the field during the last 15 overs that did for us. I don't think I've ever seen worse death bowling from a Lancashire side. I don't understand why Bailey is captain. He's a great red ball bowler and very good in 50-over at the top of the innings but, when you have a side with a lot of inexperienced players, the last thing you need is an inexperienced captain who is probably following a plan made by Chilton, one of the most tactically clueless captains I have ever seen (although tbf he was probably following a plan made by Watkinson) All other counties not affected as much as us though.

Well, results have really gone our way today. Worcs, Hants and Middx all lost so we are still 3rd. At least it's back in our own hands...
