Good effort to get them six down but never enough time to win on such a flat pitch. For being much the better team in all departments, Lancs are rewarded by getting one more point than Yorks. Makes nonsense of the bonus point system.

One option would be to give a couple of points for first innings lead in addition to bonus points.

Why did we shake hands when there were still 7 overs left?

Why did we shake hands when there were still 7 overs left? I thought that was a bit generous, Thompson had already genuinely edged between Salt and Anderson at slip, I would have shaken when they got ahead rather than still being 18 behind. There would have been more than 7 overs available with Parkinson and Wells bowling. I assume Vilas wanted to bring back Anderson or Bailey but the umpires said they would call it a day, if he did.

Yes bad light was an issue and it rained shortly after they came off. Highlight of the day was Jimmy bowling Root! Not many in the ground but the You Tube audience was around 3,000 at times.
I think if Haseen Ali had played we might have won but who knows. Concerned that Balderson seems to be missing out on the glut of runs - not got beyond 23 runs this season and is averaging just 13. Parky was a bit wayward at times though he maybe feeling a bit tired. Last season he was bowling, on average, 32 overs per 4 day match. This season so far is 61 overs.
Haseen Ali should be playing v Essex but not known whether Jimmy available.

One option would be to give a couple of points for first innings lead in addition to bonus points. I'd be in favour of employing DLS to devise a points system that truly reflects the balance of power in a drawn game. Yesterday Lancs could either have won or drawn, whereas Yorkshire could only have lost or drawn. That ought to be reflected in the final points score. The problem with 1st innings bonus points is that they do little more than reflect the nature of the pitch.

On the Yorkie forum they were astonished that we shook hands so early. They also thought that Jennings batting was far too negative.
My gripe would be the usual that we have one slip to Jimmy Anderson when we are well on top and the ball goes through 2nd slip in the air. We put the second slip in after that. I didn’t see him bowling in the second innings but thought Jimmy was far too short in what I saw in the first even though it did get him one wicket.

I agree, Des: Anderson certainly bowled much too short in the Yorkshire 1st innings, although he was back on song on Sunday. Maybe a more attacking field would have brought rewards but, in the end, the pitch defeated all attempts to play enterprising cricket. Indeed, Yorkshire at first attempted to score at a faster rate than Lancashire had but still didn't get to 350 in 110 overs and ended up following on, so I'm not sure why their fans are criticising Jennings.
