That is a huge disappointment. He was excellent in his first few games and we seemed to be cultivating him by giving the cap. Pakistan players have good availability generally. Cricinfo report we did not offer renewal and lists Pakistan commitments but he is out of favour there at present. Chilly better have a good alternative up his sleeve!

And yet, Lancs gave Buttler a new deal. Lancs are run as poorly as United.

We shouldn't mind paying someone that plays for us.

Spoke to a Lancs member today who was at a Warwickshire game earlier in the season (not against us). He bumped into Hasan and asked him why he didn't come back to Lancs, he said he would have liked to but Lancs wouldn't pay what Warwick offered. Not a great surprise but there it is from the horse's mouth. Suppose they do pay well, but it's worrying that Worcester have offered Jones a better deal than we could. I know it's an extra year but surely more money as well, unless something else is behind it.

Not sure it was entirely down to money with Rob seeing in the annoucement that he was leaving that".....he will get more opportunity across all formats to progress his career..." at Worcester..

Allott said Wells was on more at little second division Sussex before he was released. He was director of cricket at the time so its not conjecture. Was very surprised at first then considered how our chief executive views the team and cricket in general.

I see that point but I was thinking he would now get the opportunity at Lancs with Vilas and Croft coming to the end of their careers leaving a big hole in the middle order, bigger than we have had during Jones time with us.

He's been in and out at Lancashire for years and he'll be 28 by the start of next season. I'm sure Worcester have told him he'll be first choice in all formats and bat 4 or 5 in the championship. He seems a lively character and I'm sure he'll have a good career with them, perhaps in the same way as Luke Procter has at Northants. For my money he's made the right career choice.

I wonder if Lancs are spending too much on the likes of Buttler and Anderson a bit like united was with De Gea. And so there isn't enough to go around for the next level down of player and other teams can gazump us.

And so there isn't enough to go around for the next level down of player and other teams can gazump us. Surely they get more money from England than their Lancashire contract is worth. I doubt they are paying anything to either of those two, but will do as and when they lose their England central contracts. That might not be too far away for Anderson, but would he not immediately retire?
Isn't the deal that a player is on X for his county, then get's a central contract which will be X + Y. Otherwise, there is no financial motive to accept a central contract.
