Alanw ; agree and especially about info .Would be very cynical if we don’t follow the other side’s example. Not worth winning trophies if it’s that important. What is the point of winning a trophy against their side when they’ve already telegraphed that they will play the young players who deserve to be there? MITS ; as Exile says, it hasn’t been a matter of selection that has cost us in semis and finals. It has been a lack of collective nerve from that Sussex final onwards in 2005 ? when only Dominic Cork showed any temperament.
I haven’t followed the one-day cricket very closely but , in what I have , I’ve seen two outstanding performances from Hurt and Lavelle. I don’t know enough about Hartley and Morley’s contributions to this tournament. However If either of LH or GL are dropped for 100 mercenaries , the unthinkable will happen and I will want the bete noire of my youth, Kent to win. I’m glad it looks like Wood and Salt are unavailable so hope that won’t happen.
I do realise however, that it would be difficult not to pick 100 players if they were available when the coach also buggered off to the 100.
Admin , seven hours prior to this post, what is the relevance of Buttler to this thread, my cricketing kindred spirit?

It's correct that the squad of players who got Lancashire to the Final are the one's to take the field at Trent Bridge but let's not kid ourselves, if those same players had the opportunity then they would be playing in the 16.4. The only reason they are playing in the Royal London is because they weren't picked up in the 16.4 draft.

The only reason they are playing in the Royal London is because they weren't picked up in the 16.4 draft. It was reported during the Hampshire v Kent RL50 match that a couple of the Hampshire players (Currie and Prest have been named) turned down hundred contracts, because they didn't want to be well paid drinks waiters for a month. Suggestion that next year a number of others who have barely featured for their franchises may take the same view.
Just for example young Lancs players such as Bell, Balderson and Lavelle, would have a much better chance of playing for a franchise in 2023 or 2024, if they have a successful RL50 behind them, rather a month of drinks carrying this year.

John W ; point taken . It wouldn’t be the majority, but there will always be a small percentage of young people who put other values before money. That was always the way I was brought up. It may not have served me well materially although I’ve always had more than enough but I’m really happy that was the way I was brought up.
Admin, I’m sure you appreciate I was only joking. I just can’t imagine JB playing for us even though he did play a Twenty20 game I believe. If he replaced Lavelle for the final, that really would send me apoplectic

The problem with the "play your strongest team" argument is that it assumes that the "strongest team" consists of the eleven best individual players - but the essence of a team is the way that the individual members work together and that, to a large extent, depends on how they feel. If any club can be said to have demonstrated the truth of this it is surely Lancashire in the early 2000s when an expensively assembled collection of players of international standard repeatedly fell down at the last hurdle because the club never provided the management and leadership needed to turn them into a proper team.

With the announcement of the t20 teams it looks like Parky will be only England player available.

With the announcement of the t20 teams it looks like Parky will be only England player available. The spinners do seem to be the only feasible addition to a travelling squad. Theoretically, it becomes more interesting if Sundar is back in September.
The choice then becomes Morley or Sundar who have played in the RL50 or Parkinson or Hartley. Morley has played but often not bowled his full allocation - by someway. Sundar has been effective but there must be an argument to play Lancastrians. Not sure Kent will play an Overseas. Has Hartley out played Parkinson since his test appearance? Has Hartley ever really played 50 over cricket? I doubt he has ever played a List A game
Simple answer would be seam attack plus Wells at Trent Bridge in September.

According to the Trent Bridge website, the final starts at 11.00. The timing of this match looks like an afterthought. Depending on the kind of pitch Notts produce, the side batting first could be massively handicapped.
