Advanced talks with Nathan Lyon for a large part of the season. Now you are talking. Quality bowler and winning mentality.

Daniel Gidney was saying at Southport last night that they were hoping for a very exciting overseas bowler for majority of season.
That’s the sort of signing of which I would very much approve. Not got much time for most Kolpaks but high class Test players welcome for decent spells ; not just four games. ( By the way, I know the Kolpak thing no longer exists but I’m sure you get my drift, quality wise).

Advanced talks with Nathan Lyon for a large part of the season. Quality spinner. If the other overseas spot is a middle order batsman it means a few questions regarding the pace attack. A heavy workload for Bailey and Williams, Blatherwick still in the frame, Wood featuring more in CC games, Jimmy turning out in the early part of the CC campaign, Saqib returning to full fitness, Stanley stepping up.

Yes, he said process was underway lead by Chilton. He said there was a long, impressive list of targets with some very expensive as short term IPL role is attractive to many. The implication was that it was not the feared in house shoe-in. Overall the CEO was impressive on most topics.

But aren't they still waiting on whether Anderson gets a new ECB contract? (Plus Croft, Blatherwick and not sure if a rookie contract is only one year or not). How do they know their budget, otherwise?

Maybe even Boyden but he appears as injury prone as others mentioned.

Our signings from other counties, do they work?
By my calculation over the last 20 years:
2006 Sutton 2010 Moore 2012 Tahir 2013 Kabir, White 2014 Buttler 2015 Buck, Edwards 2018 Jennings, Onions 2019 Gleeson 2020 Wood 2021 Blatherwick, Wells 2022 Salt 2024 Stanley
16 in 20 years, I'd struggle to say 50% were/are a success for the club.
16 is the least by any County over the period.

Pretty dreadful from 2010-2015, I can't even remember Edwards. From 2018 they've all been at least a qualified success with the possible exception of Blatherwick, who may be considered a bit of a punt anyway.

Edwards was a completely bland seamer from Surrey I seem to remember.

www.espncricinfo.com/story/nathan-lyon-poised-to-sign-with-lancashire-for-2024-season-and-join-forces-with-jimmy-anderson-1406168#_=_ Looks like Lyon is coming. ....and he's expecting Anderson to play for the county as well. Hopefully he'll play more games and formats than Anderson. Hope he's not disappointed. "It's looking pretty good that I'll head over to Lancs hopefully, we'll dot all the i's, cross all the t's, get that signed and head over there to play with Jimmy Anderson which will be good."
England's first test next year starts on 10th July so in theory they will have the opportunity to team up for a few CC games before that, in practise we'll have to wait and see. When Jimmy turns out for Lancs it is usually before the start of a test series and not after.
