Yes - we can't field a balanced attack. Even so, our top order should have batted better. The total was eminently gettable even on a pitch that was getting slower and slower but we threw it away in the first power play.

Had Parkinson been playing a full season with Lancashire, he would probably have found some form/rhythm and would have been whisked away to the Hundred, as he was last season.
We had Wells to bowl spin last season, but he’s now with the Hundred in any case, as of course is Hartley.
Croft isn’t even under consideration as a player, but only bowled a bit of part time spin in any case.
So short of signing a short term overseas, or a county player on loan, it seems our only option was to play Morley all competition as the sole spinner. We can’t bowl more than ten overs of spin.

Bailey would probably play as a spinner, although Barnard was picked in the squad to play Cumbria, so why not give him a go. He can bat a bit as well. You can only play with what the Hundred leaves you. Can you keep a player on just to play in this competition? That's basically what's happening to Lavelle, which isn't really satisfactory for anybody. |
