Probably more wickets in one innings than his dad got in his career, seems to be a decent bat as well, has opened in the past

It’s only a guess Admin but I would have thought his dad got around 50 wickets and I suspect could have been useful like Root but for his back.
Nevertheless, agree JDC does look good.

A useful leggie at the start of his career Athers.
Both of his test wickets are on youtube- got Wasim out with a straight ball in a dead test in 1996!

In 1990 Atherton topped the Lancashire first-class averages with 44 wickets at under 28 each, ahead of names such as Watkinson, Patterson, DeFreitas and Wasim Akram. The other principal slow bowler that season, Dexter Fitton, contributed 14 wickets at a cost of over 103 per victim.
Just for good measure that season, dad Atherton scored 1,190 runs at 78.

Dexter Fitton that is a name from the past. Tragically died after being hit on the head in a club game i thought. Reasonable offie. Better than his replacement alex barnett as no 1 spinner!

Is that right Rob? I knew Ian Folley died after being hit in a club game on the Cumbrian coast, but wasn’t aware a similar fate befell Fitton.

Hi You are absolutely right it was Ian Folley I was thinking of. Apologies. www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/ian-folley-12950I was confusing my 1980s spinners. I am glad that Dexter is alive and well. Ian Folley by the way was a good bowler. Never sure why he was released. RIP.

Ian Folleys figures are alot better than Alex Barnett can anyone remember why he was released?
Alex Barnett according to Cricinfo: After his cricket career ended, Barnett became involved in the internet and worked for Microsoft in the UK and USA. He is currently vice president - community - at Bungee Labs a startup based in Orem, Utah.

Ian Folleys figures are alot better than Alex Barnett can anyone remember why he was released? Ian Folley took 76 1st class wickets in 1987 season but his form declined in subsequent ones and his last season was 1990.
