Well done. As I said in a recent game, Balderson is going to be some cricketer.
In both league cricket and county cricket this year, I’ve seen as many wickets as runs from reverse sweeps.Just a non percentage shot. They usually only go straight to a fielder if not dismissed. I want us to win but I hate seeing brainless cricket by either side.

I’d like to praise the wicket at Blackpool, which has produced over 1,400 runs and 39 wickets. If only all our 4 day games were played at Liverpool, Southport and Blackpool, we could try to emulate the heroics of 2015. Let’s leave Old Trafford to Tests, O.D.I.’s, Blast and Hundred matches. Every home match at O.T. last season was drawn mainly in front of crowds of about 1,000 with no atmosphere. Meanwhile at Blackpool this weekend over 2,000 crowds on Saturday and Sunday with a brilliant atmosphere. Meanwhile leaving the ground we noticed rows and rows of soft drink cans confiscated, and announcements warning fans not to encroach onto the outfield, with stewards guarding the pitch. The same stewards who disrupted the last game at O.T. by moving behind the bowlers arm in their bright orange vests.

Modelled on the East German stasi making Old Trafford one of the most unappealing cricket venues

An interesting stat - 43 players innings - 5 of which were 100's - from the other 38 not one reached 50.

I agree about the pitch, albeit it offered absolutely nothing to a regulation seamer like Williams and it did go very flat once the ball had got softer. On the other hand, there was a lot of bounce for the new ball and I think we won because our bowlers (including Lyon) were better at exploiting it.

Well that's made things look a lot better hasn't it! I thought we were gone at 300-3 and had we lost today, we'd definitely have gone down. Now it looks like we've got a good chance of staying up, and that has to be the aim this season - we're basically playing half a team of kids against experienced pros. Positives Aspinwall - obviously!! Looks to have a similar stature/physique to Ryan Harris and Darren Gough, so hopefully he can keep getting quicker. Balderson - as others have said, he's going to be a star. I'd bat him at three and tell him to get his head down. Hurst - another star in the meeting. Batting and keeping both great. Negatives Wells - hopefully gets a score soon. Williams - clearly a great lad and is a real asset in helpful conditions, but looks so innocuous when it's flat. Been a good signing but maybe best to move him on after this season. Mahmood - is he out again? Would be gutted if he is. Hopefully this is all fair and reasonable!

Need to not lose the next game against Warks at OT. No doubt Davies will play a blinder. Then on to the T20.

A great advertisement for county championship cricket. A result wicket but good enough to last the course. 4 great days of warm, sunny weather. A pleasure to sit wherever you wanted, the players have to appreciate looking around and seeing spectators surround all areas of the ground, not endless empty stands at a concrete jungle.
A team who at last competed and ultimately earned the win. We didn't have the best of luck today, losing Saqib so early in the morning, a couple of occasions when the ball was in the air but landed just out of a fielders reach. This was the second successive game where they had failed to take a wicket in the second innings of a morning session which must have prayed on their mind at lunch, but they came out and showed some fight which bodes well.
Nathan Lyon - very impressed with him in two roles other than his bowling. This afternoon he was chatting/encouraging Balderson every single ball when he took the new ball. A nice bit of pro support from senior to junior, reassuring words from a great must make the younger bowler feel so much better. Yesterday he was down at fine leg for the evening session. He engaged in chat with the spectators on the boundary edge and obliged every single youngster who asked for a selfie.
Of course one win doesn't turn things round. Other than the skipper and possibly Bruce (who just might be finding his feet), the other top six don't fill you with hope. Who gets the runs if Jennings fails in the next match? Aspinwall and Balderson stuck their hand up first /second innings but there is still a big question mark about our seam department both injury and quality wise.
Lastly as others have mentioned, the heavy handedness of the security is a pain in the backside. The decision to not allow children and adults onto the pitch on days 2, 3 and 4 is yet another own goal from a couldn't care less management. Mr PA man informing everyone that they must sit at least six feet behind the boundary rope but if I had taken my metal tape measure to check would security have taken it off me (dangerous weapon)? I might add that the toilet facilities especially for females was an absolute disgrace. It is all down to cost cutting.
Still, we've had a Lancashire win so we can't grumble too much. Onto the concrete jungle...sigh

My thoughts -
At the start of the day Durham probably thought "a tough target but we'll give it a go" and at lunch having scored 150 runs at a rate of 5 rpo and, more importantly without losing a wicket, they must have been pleased.
Even an hour into the afternoon session, when they had a lost a couple of wickets, they were 75 runs on and only 116 runs from victory with plenty of time in hand. Then the match changes and Lancs win...that is the beauty of county cricket.
Interesting that Balderson started as a opening batsman and is becoming one of our main bowlers. Sadly Mahmood didn't return to field.
A word for Stokes who despite have a knee problem still put in 38 overs...
Thought the number of public toilets (10) was bit miserly.
Next game coming up so we need a replacement for Mahmood...go for a bowler or batter....I say the latter...that leaves the bowling to Wells, Lyon, Aspinwall, Balderson and Williams.

Balderson must stay at 6. He’s our best bowler at present, andi is now just as effective with his he new ball. I’d give Tom Bailey another chance assuming Mahmood is unfit.
