can't blame the pitch for the lack of runs. There were only 35.3 overs bowled in all three games all day. Good advert for T20 (not) 66 plays 41. Thought Essex had brought a very strong side. 4 played for their first team 2 days ago (Walter, Pepper, Cook and Zaidi) against Glamorgan in the T20 plus Browne playing similar to Hameed. Whereas Lancs had 14 on duty in Headingley and 6 non-contracted players at Arundel. Most of whom may never play first team county cricket. Lancs presumably could have taken Parry and Chanderpaul but chose not to.
