An easy win in the end on a pitch where scoring wasn't nearly as easy as on Thursday. The right Blatherwick turned up and Green was transformed from Friday's poor showing. It looks as though we'll do well at OT if we keep preparing fast tracks but we do need to think about team selection for away games. Bohannon did OK today. Wells looked a bit off with the bat and Jennings was never going to make any runs. The huge last over probably tipped the scales for us.

Silly idea sending in Wood to try to up the scoring rate. I assumed it was about keeping the l/r combination going?

I may have missed him but I sat in my seat at 11.45, directly opposite the media centre (went to Members forum) and looking through my binoculars at the T20 players bench/pod and the players balcony/dressing room, I couldn't spot Mahmood anywhere. Strange as he was in the squad named yesterday.

Silly idea sending in Wood to try to up the scoring rate. I assumed it was about keeping the l/r combination going? If the Lancs commentators are to be believed, especially David Lloyd, Lancs were working on the assumption that a competitive score on this strip would be 200. After a fast start the rate had dropped off quite a lot so Wood was sent in to give it a bit of long handle. It didn't work! As we saw, it was nowhere near a 200 pitch.

Lancs seem to judge a lot of pitches wrong going by the comments on here, whether at home or away. Not that they win many tosses!

I got the impression that they wanted a left/right combination - why Jennings was at 3. I don't think it makes any difference. Think Bohannon is in the team because he is vice captain. His average is now 10.68.

I think what Mickey says is true. Indeed Glen Chapple, who was much criticised for making poor decisions when winning the toss, once said that he didn't believe in trying to judge a pitch in advance and tbf it's certainly not an exact science! Derbyshire also thought today's pitch was full of runs, which is why they decided to bowl first. In practice, maybe because it had already been used on Thursday, it was far from easy to time shots on and Lancs would never have scored 22 off the last over if Dupavillon hadn't lost control. Not that it would have mattered because the fast surface gave the Lancs bowlers a big edge. It was a different story at Worcester and we're going to have to think about changing the bowling attack when we go to grounds where the pitch rewards accuracy rather than outright pace. Blatherwick and Aspinwall don't have enough control to be effective on slow pitches and, on the evidence so far, slow pitches don't suit Green's bowling either.
As regards the rh/lh combination theory, Wood giving Patel the charge almost straight away does rather support what Bumble said.
