Oh dear, just to make things worse it looks like Worcestershire are going to win now. Still, at least Des will be happy.

Went back to the announcement of the squad for the Hants game and read that Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood who could have been the fast bowlers Benkenstein says would make the difference were not selected to "manage their workload". Wood bowled 20 balls in The Hundred on 12 August, Mahmood 20 balls in the final on 18th. They'll both bowl probably 24 balls at most at this Wednesday's Blast. That's the kind of workload I'd like managed. Unless it's the players themselves or the ECB saying they can't play it says to me that whatever Benkenstein says he clearly doesn't prioritise the Championship. As people are saying on this site it's unthinkable not to sack him after this season but who knows what contract he's been given by Chilton.

There must be none or little financial loss to being in the 2nd division.

.....................but who knows what contract he's been given by Chilton. I understand he has a two year contract, and I can't imagine either him or Chilton relinquishing their positions at the end of the season. Every other time (4) we've been relegated we've bounced back immediately. One wonders if that would be the case in 2025. Worcestershire have indeed won, Warwickshire also, and Surrey have dangled a carrot in front of Notts. To say we're in deep poo is an understatement.

Notts have also to play Kent, the current whipping boys...Worcs play the other whipping boys the last game of the season!

There must be none or little financial loss to being in the 2nd division. I think there is....at best CC does'nt get much press overage, which matters to advertisers, and you get even less in the 2nd division....

But I wouldn't think it would affect attendances, the die hards will still go. In fact, a game against Yorkshire if they stay down might attract more coverage. And those of us who follow CC on LancsTV will still follow. Prize money is probably less.

At least we get to play each side twice Maybe a trip to Colwyn Bay. I believe that the local authority has withdrawn funds to host first class cricket at Colwyn Bay. Maybe a trip to Cardiff instead.

There must be none or little financial loss to being in the 2nd division. True but not really the point

What is the point of getting a fast bowler if the batsmen can't get the runs? What is the next team going to look like?
What is wrong with our bowlers? Bailey 2023 50 wickets at 22.66 ---- 2024 15 wickets at 45.06 Williams 2023 39 wickets at 23.17 ---2024 14 wickets at 35.14
At one time we had Anderson, Chapple, Flintoff, Martin and Schofield.

Not just the bowlers. Bohannan, Wells and Balderson have all regressed with the bat. So many established players going backwards at once, suggests something seriously wrong at the club.
