Nothing we can do about the DOC and the coach, but we can do something about the board. We are still, just about, a members club, and could call an EGM to propose a vote of no confidence in the board. No point doing that, of course, unless there are others to bring in. Are there not some ex-players with good contacts, who are as frustrated as we are at the current situation, and might be prepared to do something similar to Botham at Durham?. I haven't attended AGMs or meet the members type events but I get the impression they are attended mainly by people who wouldn't say boo to a goose and who go for tea and biscuits and to be in the same room as a couple of vaguely famous ex players. Nobody seems to really challenge those sat at the top table with forceful plain speaking. I know we have one or two on this forum who just like a day at the cricket win or lose and that is fine if that is your bag but I turn up to see my team compete and win as often as possible. To me it beggars belief several people are still in employment as we stand.

Remember Captain Fantastic from the old forum? He would be having a field day if he was still around!

Remember Captain Fantastic from the old forum? He would be having a field day if he was still around! Most likely a victim of spontaneous combustion brought on by over promotion of Mark Chilton.

Attend the meetings and have your say then Given how this season has gone I may well do, work permitting, but I would probably be ejected.

“Remember Captain Fantastic from the old forum? He would be having a field day if he was still around!” Funnily enough I was only thinking about him yesterday Dave. Remember how he used to criticise our openers Moore and Horton in our championship season . Both averaged just under 39 on some very sporting wickets and in my opinion for one season only were the best openers in the division but it wasn’t good enough for CF !

Yes Des, to be honest he was downright rude and had the forum been moderated properly he would have been banned. I remember his daily exchanges with the poster from the Algarve who went under the title of 34, and also with Tom, who wasn’t the only one to be hounded off he forum. He was particularly scathing about Tom once suggesting Holland were a decent side, after either beating Lancashire or running them close.
Another of his pet subjects was contracts being given to those he considered constantly underperformed; one who comes to mind is Oliver Newby, but he probably had a point there!

Spot on Dave ; when Moore scored three fifties and an hundred and fifty in the last two vital games, he said he was just playing for his contract!

Just going back to the Durham game, here are some of my thoughts/observations over the four days.
Other than the first couple of hours on day one we got away with the weather, most of the time it was sunny and pleasant. Stewards and Durham fans very warm, pleased to see you had made the effort to come to the game. Only one stand closed so plenty of areas to sit where you wanted. Once again an absolute pleasure to visit another ground where you felt welcomed.
(I'll get this out of the way) The luck that Lancashire didn't have! The four principle architects of our downfall were Raine, Potts, Bedingham and Ackermann. IF the match had been played the previous round, Potts (England duty), Bedingham (South Africa A), Ackermann (wife having twins) would not have been available. Carse would have played for them.
The toss - it was a massive toss to win especially when Durham have Raine, his probing accuracy reminded me so much of Mike Hendrick, no real pace but ball after ball on the spot. However, hard as it was when the innings started, conditions had improved a couple of hours later and at 88/3 with Bohannon and Hurst set there I had optimism that Lancs could set a competitive total, Bohannon and Bell getting out just before and just after tea kind of put paid to that. Hurst was batting superbly (mature beyond his years, one youngster has improved under the present coaches) but he needed help from the other end, it became the opposite of Benkyball and both Balderson and Hartley chewed up 139 balls for 26 runs, the scoreboard wasn't moving.
Day 2 and 3 - Intensity. When I was at Derby for the MB game a Derby fan was talking to a fielder on the boundary. The fan spoke about how Derby were on the ball both fielding and bowling, the fielder replied with "intensity, It's the last thing we say before coming out of the changing room at the start of every session, if we are up for it then the opposition know it, then it's up to them whether they match us". It's a word that must not be used in the Lancs changing room. Intensity was lacking that second morning when Bailey sauntered through for a second run rather than running hard, if he had run hard he would have been alive to Hurst's call for a third run (Hurst was running to the danger end). That run out ended our hopes of maybe getting up to 300, both batsmen had been relatively untroubled with the new ball and both Raine and Potts were due a rest. Intensity was also lacking when Jennings (not for the first time this season) allowed the Durham innings to drift, allowing Bedingham and Ackermann to dictate early on before they both took complete control of the situation. No pressure on them when they both approached their 50/100/150/200/250!! Intensity was lacking when Bailey bowled one over of spin and when Bell bowled the first two overs after lunch on the third day - the white flag had been raised. Just as Raine reminds me of Hendrick, Bedingham reminds me of Hick when he first played for Worcester, in total control of his batting, dismissive at times and clearly dominating any bowler who happens to be in his way.
Day 3 post tea - the captain walking round the boundary, on his own, deep in thought. Something you very rarely see is one player on their own, usually it's a couple of the backroom staff with one or two players. Jennings looked a lonely figure, he's hit the wall with regard to his batting and with that a major chunk of our hopes of staying up have gone...penny for his thoughts?
Anderson Philip - his first spell was good, bowled the one bad ball an over to let the opposition off but he had a zip about him and if there had been a bit more penetration at the other end we might have had them 3 down early on and getting Bedingham in early. Give me him over Iyer any day of the week.
Day 4 - I had hope that the miracle would happen, at 10.36 when Balderson was out that hope vanished right up the Angel of the North's b...side!
