so that is the third international spinner Lancashire has signed this month:
Mark Watt: Scotland: 3rd August Zahir Khan: Afghanistan: 7th August Keshav Maharaj: South Africa: 28th August
Are the Head Coach and Director Cricket taking turns these days? Talk about scattergun approach.
Watt and Khan are playing for the seconds today (both announced as joined for the remainder of the season, not just for the T20)

The big cheese Allott was on Radio Lancs on the way home in respects of batsman he stated theer wasn't anyone available I see Glamorgan have just signed South African Test Opener Stephen Cook (previoulsy with Durham) although not too succesfully (mind we could do with a second bat in the top 3 averaging mid 20s:

Following our discussions at the end of last season as to whether Lancs could put out a team of Spinners and Keepers, I note that Liam Livingstone, the only Spinner playing in this game, has just completed his 14th over of the first day.
Is there something wrong here ?

Croft and Jones can also bowl spin but Livi can bowl both off break and leg spin

I Dont disagree that these two can bowl spin.
But I think it was more a case of Maharaj, Khan, Watt, Parkinson, Parry.
We were probably including Croft but he didn’t bowl at all yesterday.
Has Livingstone now passed Parry? Where is Parkinson?
Was Livingstone bowling to keep the Over Rate up with no chance of turn ?

I Dont disagree that these two can bowl spin. But I think it was more a case of Maharaj, Khan, Watt, Parkinson, Parry. We were probably including Croft but he didn’t bowl at all yesterday. Has Livingstone now passed Parry? Where is Parkinson? Was Livingstone bowling to keep the Over Rate up with no chance of turn ? Maharaj and Khan were overseas. Maxwell will be back after the world cup so will add to our spin options in the T20 and during the Ashes.
Watt's contract was not renewed. Within the squad he has been effectively replaced by the signing of two home produced spinners Hartley and Morley both currently playing regularly for the seconds. Morley has played England under 19 already whilst still being 17.
Parkinson and Parry were both in the 14 named for this game. But never likely to play in preference to an all pace attack.
Commentary suggested yesterday that Livingstone has gained more control, so can be used more in the first innings this season. Bad balls may get wickets in T20 but rarely in four day cricket.
Losing Clark has effectively meant the side has lost more than a bit of balance, Bailey or Parry would be batting too high at 7. Clearly Parkinson or Parry plus four seamers would be a long tail.
Yes, Livingstone was bowling to keep the over rate up but also to rotate the seamers and provide a little control (15 overs for 25). Any wickets would be a bonus on the first day. Let's hope the control is also there when he bats today.
