I would not at all be surprised if, come the Ashes, Cook is top scoring and averaging 80 in the CC and the selectors give him a call. Given England's issues at the top of the order in recent years the likelihood of finding one settled opener is not great, never mind finding two.
I said it last summer, I think he made a mistake in announcing his full retirement from international cricket. Surely, given the schedule, he would have been best taking the winter off and reassessing how he feels later this summer?
