Just to proove how lucky Lancashire were, the corresponding game to this Cheshire fixture for Cumberland was to be played at Sedbergh School. No play was possible yesterday or today, both days called off around lunchtime. Tomorrow they will try and play a one innings match ..... rearranged away from Sedbergh at Netherfield. Doubt it will happen even then.

I found Colwyn Bay something of a dispiriting experience despite our good performance, so abject was the opposition batting but to be rained off at Sedbergh would have been worse. One lighter moments at Colwyn bay was Allott’s chair collapsing underneath him on the balcony. One wag near me shouted “ throw him out”. I came away from Colwyn Bay feeling that proper cricket is doomed , a feeling increased watching the Test highlights yesterday. Hardly anyone can but these days. It was depressing to think that the whole of Wales could not produce anything better than the second rate batting on view, half of whom appear to have been born in Australia although for all I know they may have spent their cricketing lives in Wales. Yes, Lancs were phenomenally lucky at Sedbergh as I know from nearly 50 years of the place being a spiritual home.

Cumberland had them 8 down but couldn't finish it off. Suffolk needed something like 6 to 7 an over through most of the innings, kept to that, but never able to get in the big over to take the pressure off. Everything just relieved to finally see some cricket! Much better facilities than at Sedbergh. Would love Lancashire to play there.
Des, I don't think proper cricket is doomed, but it would help if the ECB made Test Match cricket their priority after focussing, succesfully, on winning the world cup. To do that properly they would have to focus on the championship. Some of Smith's left field selections have just not worked.

If I'd have noticed in time, I'd have gone to watch this seeing as I live in Crewe.
