The abandoned 5th test to be played at Edgbaston because OT will be rocking Ridiculous to call it the fifth test. Can only do that if the squads have to be the same as they were last month. |

I agree that from a cricket point of view it sounds absurd. But I imagine that the reason lies in the contract with TV for 2021. Without fulfilling that deal, the ECB could have dropped up to £30million which the English game can ill afford after the massive losses caused by covid. As it is, Lancashire are being given the chance to recoup their own huge losses by staging the South Africa Test so this solution seems the best for everyone – except the players who will have one more major match jammed into the summer. |
