A decision on next season's schedule will be made around the time of BWT trophy match. Lancs' view, from the forum, is that there shouldn't be a gap mid-season with no 1st class cricket. Chairman of Surrey, interviewed by BBC, suggested that the 50 over game became a knockout competition like the Nat West used to be..

When the 50 over competition was knock out, there was also a 16 game 40 over competition which was almost as good as the 50 for giving practice and training for the 50 over internationally.
Now that the 40 has gone, some players would only get one game a season of more than 20 and less than FC.

One option would to be to go for the old Benson and Hedges format where you have 4x groups of five (the extra teams used from a Minor Counties combined and Universities team) and the top two from each group go into a knockout stage.

I see the T20 finals day is July 16th next year, been August/September for at least 15 years, must mean that they are playing all the T20s early!
