Has anybody read this? Thinking about buying it. That covers the period when I watched most of my cricket at OT. But I am not really interested in the background stuff. Either biographies or histories of long, long ago, or statistics and scores books are more my thing. So. That’s really a long way around saying no. Not much use I agree. Sorry !

I also watched the majority of my cricket in the 1980s and early 90s and enjoyed the one day successes we had so am interested in the book.

I've tried that, but it just pulls up THE Tony Robinson's books. This Tony Robinson is apparently a Lancs member.

I've just read "It's Raining Bats and Pads" the story of Lancashire County Cricket 1988 to 1996 by Jamie Magill. If you have sentimental memories of watching Lancashire in the late 80s early 90s then it is quite a good read. The author went to school with David Hughes' son and obviously didn't get on with Yosser, he also had a run in with Richard Green remember him? So makes quite a few negative comments about those two. The style of writing is done with schoolboy humour which I did find a bit tedious at times. The author does raise some good points about why Lancashire had a poor record during this period in the championship when they were winning lots of one day competitions.

Alanw
I’ve seen a couple of interviews with Michael Atherton where he is quite open that they just did not prioritise the championship.
Having said that, at least they did turn out unlike so many modern day stars. I think Jimmy would probably like to play more for Lancashire but , in my opinion Livingstone and Buttler don’t give a stuff and just hide behind ECB.

It certainly wasn't the official line at the time.
I don't think test players had the option not to play for their county. I remember the likes of Willis, Botham regularly playing a B&H/ Natwest game on the Wednesday after a test, having two days off (if it didn't rain) and then playing a three day and 40 over game Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue. Then starting the next test on Thursday. The introduction of central contracts was required but things have gone too far. I think the day is coming where the likes of Butler/ Livingstone aren't affiliated to a county.

No rest for him before going on tour. It is one of those innings I will never forget. Edit. Just looked up to see when it was. 1986!! I was so young then. I think it’s safe to say that this rather proves my point that it was somewhat memorable.

I read the Jonny Bairstow book, "A Clear Blue Sky", written with Duncan Hamilton. As much about his dad, and his relationships with his dad, mum and sister. An excellent read, thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't imagine what it must be like for young Jonny and his sister to lose their dad like that, speaks volumes for the family what they have both gone on to achieve. Hopefully we're in a different place now in respect of mental health but reading about the suicide of David Bairstow reminded me once again that you never really know what's going on in someone else's life, no matter how redoubtable a character they might seem.
Hope everyone's OK and looking forward to the new season which, if I'm not mistaken, I can see just peeking over the horizon.
