I'm after a bit of a memory jog if anyone can help out. I was going back through various bits of paper and autographs the other day and I have a load of autographs from the West Indies touring side of 1984 (they're in a programme from the 83 WC Final) I know some of those were from the ODI at Old Trafford (Viv Richards finest hour) but I'm also fairly sure I got some from hanging about at Southport & Birkdale. That season John Abrahams was captain because Clive was captaining the Windies touring side.
Does anyone have any idea whether the 84 touring side played at S&B, it's either a very bizarre figment of my imagination or some sort of charity/exhibition match which doesn't show on records. It obvioulsy wasn't a first class game or a listed part of the tour but I'm fairly sure they were there. Confirmation or ideally a link to a scorecard or record online would be ace if anyone can help

24th July 1984 unbelivably two days before the Old Trafford Test. Luckily the Liverpool Echo is archived online, but they don’t carry much detail. A trip to a Southport Library to look at old copies of the Visitor would have more detail I imagine.

Will try and get the match added to CricketArchive, but as I wrote to them in 2015 and again in 2018 asking them to change the name from Southport CC to Southport & Birkdale CC in all references after the 1902 merger with no effect, I don’t hold out a lot of hope.

My 1985 yearbook has another game against West Indies in 1984 at Liverpool on 29th May; a 55 over game. Windies batted first for 297 for 6 - Greenidge 186not out. Lancs fell short at 241 for 7. Fowler 94.
Interesting to note that Lancs 1st competitive game started on 2nd May..

Thanks for the updates everyone - settled my mind at least that I hadn't just dreamt it up ! I'll have to see if I can find some sort of archive for the Visiter from that week.
