Gets to play in Yorkshire game on Friday in what will probably be his only appearance this season for the Red Rose according to Lancs twitter feed he's playing in both the two Roses games the T20 and the championship match so for the latter on Sunday it means: Jennings Davies Livingstone Vilas Chanderpaul Buttler Clark 2 from Mennie/Onions/Bailey Anderson Parkinson
and for the T20 Buttler in for Croft or Lilley?

Quite ironic that Buttler now looks like a genuine red ball player, which means we probably won't see him play a single red ball game for Lancs all this year (with the World CUp then Ashes)!

She probably had a more successful 2018 than Jos Buttler did (which is what the award is for).Her contribution to the England team, is probably greater than Jos' was.
She was named as the ICC international emerging player of the year in 2018:
For what it's worth, in the past she was also nominated as Young SPOTY by the BBC so gained recognition outside of her own sport
Don't think Jos has ever been recognised in quite the same way, just be Wisden (twice).

Not sure that the BBC making a Politically Correct decision is really news.
I am sure there are a lot of cricketers, the length and breadth of the U.K. who had a more successful effect on their team’s performance than Jos did. And indeed had more success.
Just open Wisden itself on the Schools pages and there will be some outstanding performances, some amazing averages, batting and bowling.
If the award is about success regardless of level of ability of team and opponents then you may be right. Perhaps she did deserve it.
But there will be lots of village cricketers putting their case too.

Perhaps the ICC considered school and village cricketers when they made their award. The ICC are so afraid of the feminist lobby and it’s supporters in many Western Governments that they can’t even utter the phrase “World Cup” without putting the word “Men’s” before it just in case anyone was to get the mistaken impression that the players in it might be any better than those playing in the “Women’s” World Cup. You are right about the fact that a number of the “Lancashire” Women’s team have played League Cricket from time to time. No reason why they shouldn’t. If they are good enough they should be picked, and I am sure that many of them are good enough to play in some of the leagues around. Same with the England team. If any woman is one of the best available eleven players then she should be picked to play for England. |

It is an interesting debate.
Firstly I think the award for Jos is fully deserved. He was arguably the story of the summer after being drafted into the England Test Team on the back of IPL performances (which I criticised at the time and thought it was a slap in the face for County Cricket).
However he looked a completely different player against the red ball to when he had last played and actually vindicated the decision with some vital innings against India. Not to mention his amazing (nothing new) contributions to England's white ball sides.
Nothing against Ecclestone or women's cricket, but I do think there is a strong element of political correctness and tokenism in the choices of women's cricketers as Wisden players of the year.
