Assuming the breaches of discipline referred to were showing dissent at umpiring decisions (as usual the club doesn't explain) I think it's ridiculous that the club as a whole is penalised, rather than the offending players. If they did this in the Premier League all the clubs would end up with nul points! I understand that the cricket authorities want to hold the line but it's not as though the players all surround the umpire while expressing incredulity. Walking off at snail's pace while glancing meaningfully at the edge of the bat is usually as bad as it gets in cricket and I don't see why the rest of the team has to share the blame.

At least Chilton spoke his mind and criticised the penalties.

Imagine we ended this season at the top of table but only 5 points ahead of the 2nd placed team!!. You can't control things like a ball ending up in a puddle but you can control discipline and over rates. Poor show by the players.
I have noticed that Lancs can be very vocal in the field - a ball that a played back with a straight bat still leads to the slips leaping and yelling.

Better to get this out of the way now when we couldn't win anyway rather than starting next season with a points deduction.
Not a very good example by the captain though, being one of the two players cited. Last season's indiscretions were committed by Liam Livingstone(twice), Alex Davies, Luke Wells & Tom Bailey.

I think Vilas' dissent related to his run out dismissal in the Warwickshire game, given out by Mallender at the non-striker's end after the bowler tipped the ball onto the stumps from a firm drive. Notorious fence sitter Scott Read had said he couldn't give it despite watching countless replays. There had been an incident the previous day between Crofty and one of the Warwickshire players, might have been Davies, and Vilas may have paid the price for that.
I do think we are among the most zealous appealing teams on the circuit and I'm never convinced it does us any favours, I much prefer it when the "genuine" appeals are when a team genuinely believe a batter is out. I think if you try and con the ump then you lose them and you miss out on marginal decisions.

Completely agree with Oldham Exile. Appealing is appalling ( no pun intended ) at every level of cricket now. Thoroughly disappoints me in League cricket.I really dislike players walking down the pitch shouting yeh….. and then turning to the umpire as an after thought. It would certainly prejudice me against giving the decision. No batsmen ever seem to think they are out either ; always look round questioningly at where they are stood.
I actually think the pioneers of the assumed decision were Underwood, Knott and Greig. All cricketers who I admired , particularly the latter two but tainted somewhat by that. I seem to remember Trevor Bailey suggesting that to the ire of the players but I certainly saw it used to pressurise the ageing Tom Spencer to give a short leg catch out.

Umpires are bound to make mistakes from time to time and players just have to accept poor decisions as bad luck. I still don't see the logic of deducting points. By all means penalise offending players with fines, suspensions or whatever but the points table is supposed to reflect the outcomes of matches.
