Being a bitter old dinosaur, I’ve come to accept that everything I love in life has disappeared or is disappearing. Very sad as list of speakers down the years is very impressive. From the secretary
With falling membership, 41 this year, very poor attendance at meetings and a diminishing bank balance, the Committee at its last meeting sadly decided unanimously that the April 6 meeting would be the last for the Society. With speakers’ fees rising it is estimated that they would cost over £1000 next year – money we just won’t have as members’ subs would only raise half that amount.
The April meeting has Charlie Dagnall, Sky Sports, as speaker and the Committee have decided to make it a final less formal get together with a cold buffet (menu attached). It would be wonderful if all paid members could come along to say a final goodbye and bring partners and/or friends to make it a really good night. The cost for the evening will be £25 per person paid in advance. By selecting this menu the caterer has stated a minimum of 40 people need to attend. Any less and the Society will have to make up the difference. We shall, of course, be advertising on as many social media platforms as we can in the hope that non-members will also attend.
The Committee’s thoughts for the monies left in the account are to donate to a cricket charity. You will, of course, be kept informed.
It would be so appreciated if you could all help to make sure the Society finishes on a high with a really enjoyable night. It would also help if you could let me know if you intend to come so that I can get an idea of numbers.
It really is very sad but times change and new members are not forthcoming to carry the Society forward.
