I listened to some of the AGM yesterday evening. One thing I was not aware of which I thought was interesting is that counties get paid compensation when players play in the IPL in the same way as when players play for England. This does leave the issue that we do not get paid when the likes of Jos Butler are "resting" between their various franchise and England commitments.

There were a couple of question on the players during this marathon AGM....confirmed that Lancs are at about 90% of the cap on players' salaries..that Lancs have signed about as many "elite" players other major clubs.

Good info here, thanks guys.
So we get paid for players going to the IPL. I take it we still pay their wages from that compensation though. And I didn't know there was a salary cap. So even if a players wages is compensated for by England and/or the IPL they still would count towards the salary cap? I'm guessing the money earned from England/IPL more than covers players wages otherwise why do it. Also, do the counties get compensated when it comes to the hundred?

Well last year Lancs received £4.7m from the ECB but there is no breakdown as to what this includes. I know that originally each county was to receive £1.3m a year.
Lancs, as a host ground, also gains income from catering, car parking etc and I don't know whether this is taken into account.

At the AGM I think the club was trying to get the message across that we are still spending a comparable amount on player recruitment/ retention as other leading clubs despite taking on a large amount of debt to fund the development at Farington. This might be the case but there was not enough information provided to substantiate it. I am always sceptical about headline figures until I see the detail, behind them.
My view is the best way to measure the success of a signing is in the number of runs scored and wickets taken. So without providing any detail, I would say Keaton Jennings good signing, Jos Butler bad signing. One further thought is that we could offer Jos Butler a contract based on the number of runs scored, catches and stumpings taken😁.

Lancs must make money beyond covering of his wages for Buttler. It makes no sense keeping him on the books taking up a spot if they aren't getting paid well.

I wonder when our players involved in the IPL will be back in our squad. Liam Livingstone played his final IPL game yesterday, Phil Salt's team play there final game today and Jos Butler's team will be eliminated tomorrow unless there is a highly unlikely set of results which would enable them to qualify for the next round on net run rate.
For comparison Daryl Mitchell was playing for Lancashire six days after playing his last game for New Zealand on their tour of Pakistan.

Salt might be up for getting back quicky but Buttler and Livingstone don't care about Lancs. I'll be amazed if they show up for more than 1 game for Lancs. Prove me wrong Jos and Liam!

Got to say that I am both surprised and pleased to see Livingstone and Salt back playing for Lancashire within a week of their IPL stints finishing.
I assume the reason Butler's return is delayed slightly is to enable him to get some club cricket in so that he can find his form after his poor IPL (5 ducks in 14 innings).

I agree Alan, and maybe I was a bit harsh on Livingstone. He spoke well before the game and all that fans want is for players to play for their county when they physically can.
