Anyone ever noticed how much more enthused he sounds when the opposition starts doing well against Lancashire? Blandest commentator in sport.

I enjoy Scott's commentary. Have found some of the visiting commentators to be annoying Surrey and Essex spring to mind.

I think Scott tries to be non partizan as a commentator. Some of the others from other counties often don't hide who they want to win. Yeah, they'll talk up a good shot or ball by the opposition, but its not hard to tell who they want to win. I like listening to Kevan James. Kent and Somerset not bad either, as well as the 2 fellas at Gloucestershire. The fella with a thick black country accent who is on the Warks feeds can be tough to listen to.
I thought the banter between Bumble and Allott was decent today, chuckle worthy.

Not everyone will agree. Each to their own etc.

Absolutely agree that Scott Read lacks personality. He's the blandest commentator on the BBC circuit. He was a young ambitious guy, with very little knowledge or experience of cricket, that came along around 12 years ago, after the golden era of the late, great John Gwynne. With his consistent neutral, non controversial approach he fits into the carefully selected BBC sect with perfection. Indeed, has now become one of the BBC 'Blue Eyed Boys' and in doing so has gone a long way to achieving his goal of obtaining a cushy, well paid career in that particular institution for many decades to come. In addition to John Gwynne another great BBC commentator was Manchester born Dave Callaghan (Cally) who covered Yorkshire cricket for many years until his unfortunate sad death a few years ago at the age of just 63. Of today's crop of commentators, my favourites are Martin Emmerson of Durham and Jonathan Doidge, Yorkshire. Both of whom possess a good knowledge and love of the game, have strong personality and sense of humour.

I enjoy Scott's commentary. Have found some of the visiting commentators to be annoying Surrey and Essex spring to mind. Me too though his knowledge of the history of lccc is a surprisingly sketchy. At Southport Kevin James was teasing him about it. They made a good pairing.. I'm very grateful that, despite the cut backs, the BBC provides so much ball by ball coverage of the Counties . The National Press barely mention any cricket outside the tests or finals and commercial radio never bother.

Scott's best when he has a good knowledgeable colleague along side him.
Always thought Liam Bradford was excellent in 2011.

Scott isn't bad but his knowledge only started when he got the job. A few years ago during a rain break they had a quiz and Scott was asked who took 19 wickets in a test at old Trafford in 1956, he said no idea, he wasn't born!

I have to admit, during weekdays I'm mostly listening to the commentary on youtube while not watching, and will quickly switch to the picture when something interesting happens on comms, or I'll grab a few mins watching here and there. So the commentary for me is like listening to music while working, its occupying a part of the brain while the rest is focused on working. So a gentle, meandering sometimes drifting from the actual game in progress two voice audio works well for me. Having different voices/personalities switch in during the game is as much excitement as I need. Some of the ladies they have on too demonstrate great knowledge at times.

Scott has discovered 'intriguing' in the dictionary and he likes it.

“Scott has discovered 'intriguing' in the dictionary and he likes it.” Maybe it’s his equivalent of Clive Tylesely’s ( football commentator for donkeys’ years) ‘ironically.’ Usually when he said it, it meant coincidentally.

Scott Read claims he can't remember whether Keaton Jennings has a List A century for Lancashire. He can't even remember the Leicestershire game a few days ago.

He can't remember much when it comes to cricket. He is continually embarrassed when commentating alongside his opposite counterpart. "Safe hands" Scott laughs things off to compensate for his lack of knowledge. But this is what the BBC want somebody who toes the line and isn't controversial. Part of the pleasure of watching Lancashire is not having to listen to him.

I couldn’t believe that at the Southport game, he had no idea where the railway line went to and from. You do expect a little general knowledge.

But this is what the BBC want somebody who toes the line and isn't controversial. I remember last season we played Hampshire in the Championship some weeks after the T20 Final and the Hampshire commentator for some reason talked about the T20 match. Rather than mention the big controversy at the end, when it seemed the second "last ball" should have been bowled again due to James Vince changing the field, (had it been bowled again, I think I'm correct in saying Lancashire would have won the silverware), Scott restricted himself to something along the lines of "it was certainly a strange ending".
