When people like Bostock think they are defaming people by describing them as activists they effectively reveal their hinterland. Here is a man that doesn't want ordinary folk from meddling in his business of making as much money as he possibly can to line his own pockets. I have been a trade union activist for most of my working life and I am proud of what I have achieved for working people in that role. And I support the efforts of the activists in this case, who work on our behalf to defend and protect a game and tradition that stretches back to the 19th Century (I know cricket has been around longer than that, but in terms of the championship).
I probably already knew Bostock was an enemy of the game before he pejoratively referred to activists but it's helpful to have the confirmation.

In that same article it reveals that Durham are one of three counties who are not member-controlled counties. Maybe most of you knew that already but I hadn't been aware of that. It explains his frustration as he feels the other 15 are holding him back, often against their CEOs wishes, which I would say is a good thing.
I think most members accept that some franchise cricket is a necessary evil in order to maintain the first class cricket most of us enjoy. There has been some fantastic test match cricket played this winter around the world, confirming that it is the best form of the game. These games will be remembered far more than any franchise game. People like Bostock would like to see first class cricket and test cricket diminished or even extinguished. The number of people who follow first class cricket goes well beyond the numbers who actually attend it, although it was noticeable that attendances in India for our recent test series were very good.
Members are doing a very good job in maintaining the traditions and ethos of the game, whilst accepting that some innovation is required to finance it.

On Twitter there is a video of the same man thanking his own members for paying their fees during difficult Financial Times and now they are Luddites
