A relegation 48 pointer against Worcestershire, lose this and we are in serious trouble, a win and we can get out of the drop zone, both sides will be without key players due to test call ups, our usual three plus Moeen is also in the England squad. Always loved watching cricket at Trafalgar Road and the first time I went there was in 1969 when the visitors were Worcestershire, here is the scorecard from that match. static.espncricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/1960S/1969/ENG_LOCAL/CC/LANCS_WORCS_CC_16-18JUL1969.htmlBefore I got a car it always involved a massive bus journey originally the 298 from Blackburn to Southport then when that route closed into Preston and the 102 to Southport. Lancs will probably play the same team that came so close to winning at the Oval will be good to see what Clark is like for Worcester. In the original match they hammered us. Forecast is decent and I'm there for the best part of three days. It's the last chance to see the Red Rose on home soil this season.

Yep, I was there in 1969 as well. Spent practically the whole time collecting autographs outside of the changing rooms. Can well remember having to carry Rodney Cass' cricket bag to his car before he agreed to sign my book.

You can imagine the dressing / committee room. Chapple and Allott discussing cricket matters:
"We have an overseas going home in September so a chance to recruit a replacement for the final 3 matches."
"That's good we can bolster the batting afterall there are 3 from the our top 6 who average under 20 this season".
"Yes but I've been offered an international spinner for the last 4 games"
"So, what's the plan?"
"Let the current overseas go early, on the quiet he's average (batting 38, bowling 21) but not won us a game all season."
"If we don't do a press release, we won't have to explain his early release, or even thank him for his efforts"
"Decided then. Recruit the match winning spinner"
"What if the pitches don't look like they take spin?"
"We'll leave out the lad, you know, that one who took all the wickets in T20, Michael Parkinson isn't it"
"Great, never liked him on TV"
"What about the batsmen?"
"Just pile the pressure on them and tell them we'll replace them with nightwatchmen if they don't get into double figures"
Then on match day:
The star new bowler takes 0/33. All the 3 struggling batsmen fail to bat to their low averages.
The conversation continues:
"So what shall we say tonight at Close of Play?"
"Let's talk about the run out that the new overseas did, and explain we are looking to the future by dropping the 44 year old batsman."
"But we selected the player going to Surrey"
"But he's Lancashire through and through just look at this membership brochure. They must know what they are talking about"
"He's from Cumbria actually"
"Don't forget the performance of the leading wicket taker in the division"
"But we took the new ball off him in favour of a youngster who went at nearly 4 an over"
"That's our youth policy"
"what about that lad who made a 50 on debut last match?"
"Let's save our new bat to the second day. tactics, you see."
"Anyway we are trying to convert him to being a genuine allrounder, needs to be bowled more"
"And don't forget that lad the opening bowler he doubled his highest score for the club"
"Yes, that's the point of nightwatchmen"

This is getting massively beond a joke. Cock up after cock up. Why do we keep picking Hameed and Jones, Jones will never be good enough for first class and Hameed who after a great first season has had two absolute shocking seasons, this is probably the first time in his cricket career up to date that he has ever had to deal with advertisy and he clearly can't cope, i suspect he has had cricket rammed down his throat from being very young, they need to tell his Dad to do one and give him a complete winter away from cricket. Chapple was terrible with man management as a captain and is probably worse as a coach. Time to get rid of Chapple, Chilton and Allott and get some people from outside the club to try and sort things out. I agree with everyone else, why have we signed another spinner when we have got so many, Parky who has been very good this season must be gutted to be left out.

Detect just a tad bit of sarcasm in that post Chris, get your drift though. The big cheese Allott was on Radio Lancs on the way home in respects of batsman he stated theer wasn't anyone available and they want to give the younger lads a chance. Left at 6103 when hypothermia kicked in so not surprised to see 96-5. As for the cricket we bowled well fielded averagely and batted as per normal. Not an easy wicket to bat on but if you get in you can score runs, personal view Worcs first innings score is decent. Anyway a picture of Lancs celebrating Fell's wicket

Although CF will not hear of Lancs having bad luck , Worcestershire did ride their luck today a bit batting as MITS said on other Forum; especially d’Oliveira. I thought in general we bowled quite well though I share Griswald’s reservation re Lester. However, whilst all the Worcestershire bowlers conceded four an over ( I think) , there was a higher level of intensity and hostility from them. Puzzled how they are as low as they are. I know little of Maharaj but he certainly wouldn’t have lept out to me as an obvious Test bowler. Lovely day in pleasant sun , though when I met up with APM at lunch in the middle, he had clearly been freezing. The temporary stands on the left as you look from the pavilion were definitely the places to sit today; the only time I was cool all day was when I went into the middle. I don’t go back as far as 69 at Southport ; 74 was my first for one of my rare appearances at a 40 over game though I went to plenty of 60. www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Lancashire/Scorecards/34/34482.htmlLivingstone and Saquib were both practising bowling at lunch.

Do you beleive Allott? Wasn't any batsman available? Give the younger lads a chance? Other counties manage have managed to sign batsmen in the last month. Doubt Luke Procter would be average this low.
Trouble with his stated position is that ultimately he or Chapple picked Croft ahead of Parkinson, which makes a nonsense of the "want to give the younger lads a chance". The overseas doesn't have to be a Kohli to have a better average (this season) than Croft. Even an overseas batter averaging a 25 or 30 would be better than we have at the moment and would give something for the others to bat around - and give opportunities for our younger players.

Chasing 314 and we send a night watchman to open with Hameed, smacks of desperation. Only got there just in time to see the ninth wicket go down, usful 61 lead for Worcs and a fairly low scoring game. Second oddity why not open with Bailey in first innings given he is leading wicket taker in Division 1. Him and Onions bowled well but some decent watchful batting including a fifty for Parnell should really ensure they win this game, thought about not going after all we will likely have lost by 2pm but it's the last day of cricket probably on home soil this season so best take advantage of it Here's a picture of people dicking around during overs

Apparently it's a record run chase victory at Southport, and to get 314 you need a bit of luck which we got. Suicidal run out of Lester was not the start we needed, Hameed's call, Davies and Hameed batted well the latter batted for an hour had just hit a super cover drive when nicked one behind. Jones lasted 2 balls. Davies looked well set before playing a rash shot. Croft and Vilas decent partnership until Croft edged one behind. Clark's innings as Davies last inings for the county on home soil. 178-6 Worcs slight favourites, after tea we attacked two large shouts of LB both of Mitchell, he then dropped a hard chance from Vilas, a few Chinese cuts but credit Bohannon attacked from the word go. Vilas skie one that dropped between two fielders and thought this is our day, the winning run a Chinese cut by Bohannon summed up the way it went. Top result season kept alive and they were queueing to get in. Love watching at Southport far better than Coporate Sold Trafford

It was a good match- I've really enjoyed it. We have leapt above Hampshire (95 points), Yorkshire (94 points) and Worcestershire (87 points )in the county championship with 96 points, but played one more game.Hampshire and Yorkshire may lose their matches tomorrow and we stay above them. I was impress with Worcestershire and I hope they stay up and Yorkshire and Hampshire will go down.
