Former Lancashire wicket keeper has died RIP I know he was sacked but still why is there nothing on the website? But then I'm still waiting to see if the Introducing the Academy might run to two players.

Abrasive personally didn't get on with the committee All fell apart in the 64 gillette cup game against Warwickshire. They scored loads, Lancs were 60 for 0 in 10 overs. Mjk Smith got nervous and put everyone bar 2 on the boundary. Lancs team thought that was unspotinglike so stopped trying. Clayton came in and blocked when Lancs needed 134 from 20 overs 5 wickets left. He scored 19 in 45 minutes. Crowd turned ugly. After 60 overs Lancs were 209 for 7 lost by 85 having been determined not to lose all their wickets. Capt Grieves defended Clayton but Washbrook was furious. Committee backed Washbrook and dropped Clayton for the roses match immediately afterwards. Lancs lost that by an innings plus and the club was in crisis again. 4 players sacked amid the centenary celebration match against mcc. Grieves, Marner, Dyson and Clayton. The latter may well have batted under instruction. He went to Somerset, Marner to Leicester.

Fine cricketer, I used to watch him at Werneth in the 50s when I was a schoolboy and then at OT.
But the word was that he had a major chip on his shoulder and it wasn't just the committee he upset. He was part of the Oldham mafia with Marner and Dyson which contributed to an reportedly unhappy dressing room in the early 60s and all three got the boot.
Sadly, Clayton couldn't change his ways and despite his consistently good performances, he was sacked by Somerset too after just three seasons. He was still under 30 and never played first-class cricket again – a real waste of talent.

Friarmere cricket club have tweeted Geoff had no family and faces a paupers funeral which in these days is quite sad Wonder if Lancs and Somerset will step in. Wouldn't be the first time iirc
Edit:
Just read Warren Hegg's tweet. Lancs and the PCA have agreed to contribute to the funeral costs.
