Two centuries in the match against Worcestershire This simultaneously made me very pleased and ever so sad. Of all the many players in the last 20 years who have arrived absolutely fluorescent with talent and then quietly faded or departed, he is the most egregious waste. I wish him all the very best but still find it hard to believe Lancs squandered him. |

I wish him all the very best but still find it hard to believe Lancs squandered him. I agree. There is a big story to tell at some point about what really went wrong at Lancs. Saw him score 180 not out for the 2nds during the time he was dropped, different class to every other player. His parents were watching in their car, but I never saw any Lancs coach or player, who walked around the ground at various times, acknowledge them. May mean nothing but I thought it was strange at the time. |

The failure to get the best out of Hameed, an outstanding talent, is just the latest in a long line of failures brought about by the club's authoritarian approach to man-management (see Graeme Fowler's Fox on the Run). Lancs generally have a good record in finding and developing young cricketers but they have never been able to cope with talented players who express any kind of dissent.
