The only city based franchise to be based in a village?”
It’s Alice in Wonderland stuff, isn’t it? Rules just published for the Hundred draft - `daft` . And they don`t get any dafter than each team being allowed a `non-playing- player`. , ) How do I go about applying to be a non-spectating spectator? Will I get paid? Would I have to be at the ground with my back to the play or can I be at home watching (something else on) TV?

Interesting to note Somerset won RLC Essex and Somerset can win Championship Worcestershire and Essex contesting final of 20/20 going down to the wire as I write
None of these sides have their ground as one of the Dreads venues which is fantastic two fingers to those in charge

Helps if they are given a pitch suited to Harmer, and winning the toss in all three knock out matches, though.
13 counties now won the cup, and, of course, finally all 18 have now made it to finals day.
Only Gloucestershire, Yorkshire, Durham, Glamorgan and Derbyshire to go.

I could never imagine Daniel Gidney saying any of this:
“It’s not fair to paint us as poster boys; we are representing our club,” he says. “You look at any sport and there is always friction, probably necessary friction between governing bodies and some of their more powerful stakeholders.
“It doesn’t matter whether that’s Manchester United or Man City in the Premier League or Saracens in Premiership Rugby, both the governing body and the clubs are generally trying to push in the same direction but coming at it from different angles and with different perceptions.
“Cricket clubs are not owned by oligarchs, cricket clubs are owned by the supporters. All sport is owned, effectively, by the supporters.
.....
“We’re trying to understand how many players we’re going to be left with over that month period,” Gould says. {Yet Gidney and Allott were not only willing but also elected to lose their coaching staff}
“Although our form in the One-Day competition has not been great as a club we do have a lot of talented players and I hope they are all in high demand for The Hundred.
“If that leaves us eight, nine, 10 players short, I don’t at this point know how we’re going to be able to field a competitive team. And I’m not sure how we’re going to carry our loyal support base with us in a competition where we’re denuded of our top players. It’s going to be a real challenge and we’re going to have to find ways around it.”
“If you create something that supporters don’t want or won’t follow, very quickly thereafter you don’t have a sport. We have to be very cognizant of what supporters want.
“Genuinely, we have really good working relationships with (the ECB), and if you look at what we’ve done this year - hosting the World Cup, Ashes, development programmes, all sorts of agreements and initiatives at grassroots level - we really enjoy playing the most positive and productive role we can.
“It’s just that this one issue overshadows other things. This is where I need to reiterate, we will be working hard to make (The Hundred) a success. But we have also explained to the ECB that there is a priority order in which we will be operating.”

I just typed “100” into the web browser
It came up with “ when nuclear Armageddon destroys civilisation on Earth”.
Most appropriate

Turned the TV on. Completely having forgotten about “the draft”.
On principle I wanted to turn it off but needed to find the other remote.
Sadly it took a minute or so and in the meantime I heard.
“Dane Vilas. He played up there in the Blast this summer so knows the ground”.
Talk about dumbed down.
I quickly found the other remote and changed channels. But I assume that Vilas is playing for Manchester Money Grabbers, or whatever they are called.

It didn't take long for Private Eye magazine to write an article in it's Ad Nauseam column. It quoted that NHS chief Simon Stevens was disappointed with the ECB, 'was doing a deal with junk food aimed at children.' How could ECB do this? The article said, since the 100 was first mooted three years ago. ECB wasn't inundated with new sponsorship deal because it would disrupt other formats of cricket and not interested in sponsoring city-based franchises. The KP sponsorship makes sure that every franchise would have a different brand on its shirts. Private Eye's punch line is, 'Without any competition for individual deals, KP paid the ECB,er,peanuts.'

Lancs squad for their one day cup will be something like: Jennings Jones Croft Bohannon +Lavelle / +Guest Lamb Balderson Bailey Hurt Parry Lester 12th man?: Onions Plus an Overseas
With cover from Hartley, Morley, Burrows, Shah if they are still around or whoever does get a one year summer contract. Not really ideal given our desire to rest players especially the quicks. But not as weak as I thought it could be had Katich signed more local players.

We win 50 over Worls Cup as the 50 over game becomes an after thought of the English summer, the worrying noises is that these eight none entity sides will be the only 8 playing county cricket in the future, hope it fails or secondly if you excuse the language Hope it pisses down for the entire length of the competition won't be watching it End

So next Lancashire becomes Manchester. Quite possible

Just having a very quick totally unscientific look at three other County Club websites, one appears to be still using County in most places, another is somewhat mixed, whereas the third seem to be shying away from using the “County” word.
That is very much first impressions though.
