Six potential names for teams in next year's inaugural 100-ball competition The Hundred have emerged.
Stobbs IP, a company specialising in branding, has applied to trademark London Spirit, Southern Brave, Leeds Superchargers, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire.
While the trademark bids are for potential team names, it is not clear whether these are final titles. They will apply to teams based at Southampton, Headingley, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge and Cardiff.
The Evening Standard reported that London Spirit will be the side based at Lord's.
It means teams from The Oval and Old Trafford are still without proposed names.
Eight city-based teams will play in The Hundred over a five-week period in the summer of 2020.
The white-ball competition will be 100 balls per innings, with a change of ends after 10 balls, with bowlers bowling five or 10 consecutive balls.
The player draft for The Hundred will take place in October.
Having the Leeds name will not attract fans from other Yorkshire areas and the Welsh Fire will not doubt alienate those from Somerset and Gloucestertshire who are tagged in with them.

Katich coach of Manchester meanwhile the Oval side are called the Oval greats A lot of the supporters of this 'innovation' of a tournament have always hoped and assumed that the franchises would not be county run. But Lancashire, sorry Manchester are the only franchise to be led by a single county. So this appointment would be the least difficult aspect of next summer to predict.
Anyway, I imagine that leaves the second XI coach (Chris Benbow) or maybe Academy Director (Gary Yates) to lead the club side (supposedly the first XI) playing in the (developmental) one day cup. Least Benbow would know all the players left to be available for the county rather than the franchise.
Interestingly, after the club's Media Content Manager had previously totally denied that the club would have anything to do with the promotion of the franchise, this article is centre stage on the club's website, and tweeted three times in little over a quarter of an hour:
cricket.lancashirecricket.co.uk/news/2019-news/simon-katich-to-coach-the-mens-manchester-team-in-the-hundred/
and in the middle of that is Daniel Gidney saying "Paul Allott, Lancashire’s Director of Cricket, and I are delighted to have secured the services of Simon Katich as Head Coach." So Allott is involved as well.
Clearly it's breaking news that the franchise will be Lancashire Cricket from top to bottom!! Despite everything that has been said in the past.

From the Times: Warwickshire in trouble over Hundred contract incentives "Warwickshire have incurred the wrath of other counties by offering a guaranteed Hundred contract with the Birmingham Phoenix as an incentive when attempting to lure players from other counties. The Edgbaston club are understood to have guaranteed a so-called “Icon Player Contract” in the top salary band of £125,000-a-year to at least one England international they are attempting to sign for next season, which has irritated other counties and has raised governance issues for the ECB. The eight Hundred franchises are supposed to be completely new entities run independently from the counties, but the smaller counties who are junior partners in the new competition fear that it will be used by the Test match grounds to lure players away from them."
Can't see Gidney and Allott following suit. Their Icon contracts must already be decided: Livingstone, Vilas plus probably Mahmood rather than Parkinson or Davies. Assuming Anderson and Buttler unavailable to the franchise.
But I can see them offering it as part of the deal to keep Vilas over here as he is yet to sign up for 2020. Well, nothing announced.

Suspect trouble ahead ECB seem to have the intention of trying to alienate the small counties

BBC Sport website on 4th July:
Headline-
Simon Katich: Australia batsman named as coach of Manchester side for The Hundred
BBC quotes: "He will be assisted by current Lancashire head coach Glen Chapple and assistant coach Mark Chilton."
From the report, I through that Manchester based franchises are separate from the country set up-apparently, I am wrong.

Like most so-called “progressive” stuff, you can be sure that the Hundread has been discussed at international level. It may well be that it was someone at the ECB who came up with the idea but I have no doubt it’s received international approval and that the other National Boards are watching it with interest to see how it goes.

If the IPL and the Big Bash are as good as they claim they are, why on earth would India or Australia be interested, in a format would might diminish their own product? Can't see any major Indian players being involved. Kohli has already spoken out against the need for a new tournament. Plenty of Aussies (past and present) will be involved.

You watch.
Of course if it flops then they won’t do anything and I won’t be able to say “told you so”.
Although also it’s not just the T20 that’s being affected, it’s the 50 over game too. ICC involved and watching what happens there too, I have no doubt.
But if it’s a success then don’t be surprised if it changes. After all, why would Morgan be pushing something that is potentially going to affect leading English players the chance to perform in the IPL. It must be confusing enough trying to play 3 different games, trying to play 4 would undoubtedly lead to even more players retiring from various forms of the game.

Just seen an interesting theory establish the Hundred kill of the Blast then in the near future revert to a T20 Franchise League
