Season supposed to start on 20th but latest info is it will be postponed until May. One May weekend was supposed to be a Cup game and that will be moved to a Sunday and replaced by a league game with the other being caught up on BH Monday. It’s done nothing for my usual spring depression from which I’ve probably suffered three years out of every four from my late teens despite my love of cricket. Still, it’s probably better being depressed at home rather than at damp cricket grounds. I find most professional sport pretty depressing nowadays with money and technology ruling most of it and it’s only really grassroots stuff that lifts me. What are Rainfords chances this season, des? Good chance of staying up?

“ What are Rainfords chances this season, des? Good chance of staying up?” I’d say pretty good MickeyG . I suppose there is a chance it could be harder as teams won’t underestimate us this season. All players still there except number three Craig Woods who played some useful holding knocks last year. Were supposed to have an Indian keeper to bat number three but there was an admin problem. I gather we have signed another South African bat who goes hard at the ball. A few of us feared that quickie Josh Proctor ( who got some marquee batsmen out last summer ) might have been tempted away by one of the money clubs but I think he loves the team spirit.

I'm still fascinated by the fact that club teams bring in overseas players.

Rainford don’t pay much MickeyG. Players come to us for the experience and generally work part time. It’s one of the reasons I love the club . They spend money on the ground when they have it, not on players.

Yeah, I guess its been the case for a long time that clubs brought in overseas players as I can remember reading an article on the BBC about a young Shane Warne coming over and playing club cricket for a North West team whose name now escapes me.

The old website from which I used to copy the summarised results has not been updated since Feb so I assume illness or worse there. This is from official site. Sorry about the odd format. The link to match scores is underneath each result. Rainhill v Rainford was postponed to be rearranged which the league have allowed because of the weather conditions. Some cynics think it had more to do with unavailability of Godleman and Rainhill’s overseas pro’s late arrival than the pitch . Newton Le Willows got an early taste of how tough this division is. Rainford go to Ormskirk next Saturday which will be a tough task with almost no practice. Also postponed was New Brighton’s game at Wigan. Also noticed an absence of the Flintoffs playing for S&B yesterday and today in a 9 wicket defeat at home to Furness. Are they still with the club, do you know?

Playing a school game manchestergs.play-cricket.com/website/results/6533905If it follows previous years, they won't be seen on Saturdays outside of Bank Holiday weekends until late June/early July. Guessing Sundays are out due to revision at the moment?

Newton bowled well but Ormskirk showed their class to get to a defendable total just like last season. Facing Lees and Marsh is hard enough on there in April but some of the shots played by the Newton top order were very poor. They batted like it was mid July on a road.
