Chapple admitted that the pitch was dead and blamed overuse of the square but we've been having these lifeless wickets for years.  Since the square was turned, the most central pitches are much better but the rest are as bad as ever: hard to score on and hard to get batsmen out on if they're not willing to take risks.

Hundred has put more pressure on the ground staff as they are limited to the centrallt located pitches due to television.
