What a game! And still a chance to win the championship! Certainly didn't see that coming after the Nottinghamshire game.

Warwickshire going at not far short of 5 an over, 138 ahead with 9 wickets left.
Going to be tight there too.

That was as gripping a couple of hours as I can remember in years. Brilliant innings by Vilas almost ruined by Blatherwick's unbelievably cloth-headed decision to take that single.
What a match. And we'll get a finale at Lord's next week as we are guaranteed a place in the Bob Willis trophy.

I've seen a lot of County Cricket over the years but I think that was the closest finish I've ever witnessed Aigburth weather worked for us today as towards the end the low dark clouds stayed to the North and an another stoppage for bad light was avoided.
When Lamb was out Hants looked resigned to a loss then that mad run out of Bailey. Perhap's Bailey's call but Vilas should have been in charge out there.
All Vilas needed to do to take a single now and again. There were plenty of overs left,no new ball to face and the game would finish today. Now we seemed to be about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I jokingly thought much earlier that Parky would score the winning runs and worryingly that looked like coming true. Still got there in the end.....
My Man of the Match would be Tom Bailey 7 for 37 ( a career best) in Hant's 2nd and he passed 50 wickets this season as well.

Well done Lancashire, you done as well as any of us expected especially as we missed many of our top players during the run in, at least we play for the Bob Willis, be good lads as we are all behind you, best of luck and well gone beating the Hants.

Warwickshire going at not far short of 5 an over, 138 ahead with 9 wickets left. Tom Abell - 5 overs for 42 - declaration bowling??? I wouldn't have thought that was necessary. Warks will try to score quickly whatever the bowling.....

“Suspect we might all be Somerset supporters tomorrow” Always am except against Lancashire and even that is a close run thing sometimes as I just feel much more at home at Taunton than I do at Old Trafford

“That was as gripping a couple of hours as I can remember in years. Brilliant innings by Vilas almost ruined by Blatherwick's unbelievably cloth-headed decision to take that single.” Surely Vilas could have sent him and Bailey back? Agreed that he played superbly however after a season of not having much form. Saw the whole game except for this morning session when I was in the office. Also saw the whole game at Taunton ; just haven’t had the energy and time to post. Despite the excellence of their two opening bowlers, I thought Crane might be the match winner for Hampshire and said to the man next to me I was relieved he was held back. Apart from the top quality Bailey , I thought Balderson was excellent in keeping the run rate down yesterday when both Wood and Lamb looked innocuous. Also thought the captaincy was a bit by rote and spinners should have given variety earlier.

Completely agree with this, Des. Both clubs made mistakes in team selection and both captains made poor decisions on the field. In the case of Hants, the decision to select only three seamers came back to haunt them as it was obvious by the afternoon that both Abbas and Barker were exhausted. Lancs can be grateful that Vince persisted for far too long with with these two, instead of bringing on Crane. Strangely, Organ didn't get to bowl at all. In the case of Lancs, as others have said, there was no need to pick five seamers. Parkinson was brought on far too late in the 1st innings and, if Wood is going to bowl, he needs to do so while the ball and pitch are still fresh enough for his high bounce to be effective.
That said, it showed great spirit for Lancs to survive enormous pressure to win a game in which most people, including me, had written them off.
It's a very long time since I attended a cricket match of such enormous tension and excitement.
