Didn't Porter & Cook run through our top order once before at OT, before Jordan Clark came to the rescue? I know we've scored a lot of runs this season but with Croft at 4, this sort of collapse has always been on the cards against some team. Still not impossible to draw this match with the right attitude.

Maybe a bit pessimistic but certainly possible. Perhaps depends if Wood can get his head down. The earliest any rain is forecast is a possible shower on Sunday round about tea time so weather isn't coming to the rescue.

I suppose the answer to why Croft is at 4 is because his two centuries this season have been when batting in that position. Of course it does bring him in very early when a couple above him fail.
75% of Bohannon’s runs this season have come in one innings, maybe all the England talk is affecting him.
Without going back too far, it seems Vilas often starts the season with a bang and then fades. His first five innings this time have included two centuries together with an 80 and a 40; I wonder if he can keep it going?

Jones can’t score a run in either red or white ball cricket in the 2s. Leaves the two George’s, Bell isn’t ready and Lavelle is another number 6 keeper bat. We need to be recruiting in the winter.

Can we make it last until tomorrow Made it just. A lot of catching practice, and questionable shots but in was what clearly a losing position from early yesterday morning, although the dropped catches towards of the end of day 1 also did not help.
Lancashire making a mess of their 4 day season. Looking at the table, they were clearly lulled into a false sense of security and optimism with those two victories against, with hindsight, the two sides who are rock bottom without win.

Yes, made it to tomorrow but to no purpose. Very poor all round from Lancs, especially today's brainless batting, but the game was lost when Essex were allowed to put on 101 for the last three wickets.

Bad defeat with only two bowling points to our credit. We played our strongest bowling attack but only managed to take 3 wickets in the 64 overs to tea on day one.
Lancs thunder also lost so not a good day.

I heard the commentators saying on more than one occasion how this pitch was suiting Harmer. It seems like we can prepare them to suit the opposition.

It wasn't a good toss to lose but 280 for 7 was a good position for Lancs to be in at the end of day one and it could have been even better if the slip catching had been up to standard. After that we just seem to have been running on empty.

Apparently this is the first time Lancs have had to follow on since 2017...no sign of any rain...

Very poor all round from Lancs, especially today's brainless batting, but the game was lost when Essex were allowed to put on 101 for the last three wickets. Yep, very poor. Guess these things happen though right? The pitch suited them more than it did us and we just had a shocker. What's more annoying is that we didn't beat Yorkshire or Warwickshire. Had we showed more purpose with the bat we could have had 20-30 more overs' bowling time in each of those games. Instead we allowed the games to drift (think Bohannon got 20 off 100 in the War game and Salt was 20 off 70 at one stage against Yorks). Love Vilas as a player and leader but he probably got that wrong. And while I think Chapple has done a good job overall you do wonder whether the brains trust is up to it.
