Tim David will get a lot of praise after tonight, deservedly so, but Tom Hartley’s batting has been pretty crucial: 4 off his only ball in the Roses tie right at the end of the innings, and then turning tonight's last ball wide into two, and finally backing up on that last (no) ball. Neesham lost that, still waiting for his last ball of the final over, after a wide and a no ball, but clearly Lancs seem to have discovered some bottle. I don’t think Northants knew they should have tried for a run out on that wide, they just seemed to stop, content it was only a single.

David was definitely the match winner (along with Vilas) but maybe you are a bit harsh on Neesham, Chris? With only 6 needed off the last over he was forced to take big risks and it went wrong. Our own last over, which went for 13, was hardly an object lesson: Zaib dropped in the deep and then caught off a no-ball. 154 was a difficult target to chase on a deteriorating pitch against a disciplined attack, especially after giving away too many in the power play, and Lancs did well to win. With the group fixtures crammed into such a short block, playing on worn pitches is going to become normal and playing straight and rotating the strike will become more and more important. Disappointing to see both Jennings and Livingstone get out for not many by swiping across the line last night. Ironically, on the same pitch when it was new and flat, Livingstone was a model of discipline against Derbyshire.

I thought Saqib Mahmood provided some excellent welcome comments on the Lancashire streaming. Good insight. One of which was: “criminal, criminal” ... "just land it” on that ‘last’ ball. 3 were needed, 2 for a tie, which was why, no doubt McManus just held on to the ball and came up to the stumps before he realised the error. Only watched the last four or so overs of our innings missed our last over.

I agree that Saqib's comments were good but not sure he was criticising Neesham's tactics - just the execution. McManus should definitely have thrown at the stumps but that's T20 for you: induces panic. Saqib also thought David was sawn off and, in my (unqualified) opinion, he was right so we were due a bit of luck.

I presume we don’t actually pay him a salary?
