177 a/o. Another good performance in the field, albeit a really good toss to win. Balderson a bit expensive - too many half volleys - but did take wickets. Everyone else pretty economical. Be interesting to see what happens at Chelmsford, where Yorks have bowled out Essex for 240. Whoever wins this one ought to give Hants a good game.

Is this being seen as a “development” competition? Is that really backed up in reality? Lancashire prefer to use Wells than Morley as their spinner. Th elatter had 2 overs against Hampshire and did not play against Glamorgan. They seem to be in it to try and win it, rather than develop their younger players. They haven’t even played Josh Boyden one of the stars of the Under19 World Cup earlier in the year, preferring to play Will Williams, Tom Bailey and Liam Hurt (none of whom could be described as being at a development stage of their career).

Seems a bit of a good batting track? I think all Lancs games have been low scoring in this comp, unless I'm mistaken.

I don't see the One Day Cup as a top level competition when all the sides are severely weakened and would certainly like to see the likes of Jack Morley, George Bell, Jack Blatherwick and Josh Boyden given more opportunities in the competition. I also wonder what the management see as Liam Hurt's role in the squad. He's not played in the championship this season and seems unlikely that he will get picked for a 4 day game. He is well down the list for T20s. So is he on the books as a One Day Cup specialist? Having said that he has bowled pretty well in the competition this year.

Unless the authorities state in advance who is and who isn't eligible to play in this competition, counties will always be tempted to try to win it by selecting their more experienced players.
Meanwhile, we are going to be chasing a massive score, having put Northants in on a road.

Be surprised if Lancs win this.

I forget where I read it, but someone, somewhere made the comment recently that you often see players out of contract at the end of the season being given a last run in the first team. It’s almost like the management are proving the case that they aren’t up to it, rather than facing down the concept of unfair dismissal because the player was never given a chance.

Lancs have a chance of doing this, fair play to the lads.

Not out of it yet but the runs are drying up and the asking rate is climbing. No idea why we put them in on such a flat pitch, although tbf bowling pies didn't help.
