I thought that in Roses terms the declaration was quite generous. I expect that had our visitors the likes of Bairstow, Root and Malan to call on they would have had a go at the target.
Lancashire dominant for the majority of the match and were the only ones who could win in the end, but both teams collect the same number of points.

I would absolutely love us to foil Surrey in the last game ; a reversal of 2007. I would like Hampshire to win it as we aren’t going to. Yes, I know they aren’t the most popular of counties and don’t develop many of their own. However, I’ve never forgotten how their professionalism contributed so much to us winning the championship on the last day in 2011 . I’ve also got loads of respect for Keith Barker and would love to see him with another winners medal.
Friend telling me they will be 10 days of mourning and no sport in that time.Don’t know if it’s true yet. AAGH!
On the Roses match front, it seems like about four of the last five games have been rained off with us totally dominating. I know we won one last year with Saqib starring.

Just lobbing a curve ball in given the Queen’s death there is no guarantee next weeks fixtures will go ahead

I remember being gutted that Liverpool/Newcastle was called off on the Sunday Diana died. Back then I was pro abolishing the monarchy. Not so much now, mellowed in my old age and also I don't live there no more and feel its not really my place to have much of an opinion on it. Although I'm British, Britains decisions and policies should be decided by those who live there.

I think it is absolute nonsense if the fixtures don’t go ahead. A friend of mine who is very much a monarchist, complete opposite to me, nonetheless said that he thinks the Queen , a racing fan, would have wanted racing fixtures to go ahead prior to her funeral and I fully agree. I actually think it’s absolutely ridiculous that Parliament is suspended. I do have respect for the Queen but it is ludicrous to suspend the life of a country just because someone dies who was born into a position. We need to get rid of hereditary peerage rubbish too.
I wonder what John Arlott would say today? He once said that there were only about six left-wingers in the whole of the game of cricket. That probably arose from his struggles supporting Basil D’Oliveira. I must admit, I often wonder how my left-wing father managed to indoctrinate me into such an establishment game as cricket!

Crickets had a fair few of rebel types though, people like Botham and Pieterson, and not forgetting the rebel tours to South Africa. There's been plenty of working class players than have done well.
Anyway, it looks like the county championship will be saved this week as only the FA have decided on cancelling games. There probably won't any Premier league football until October now.

Mickey is right that there have been many successful working class cricketers in the past but they all grew up in an era when cricket was our national summer game. If you think of a "national" game as one which children automatically play in their leisure time, the only national game for most kids now is football. Asian kids might be an exception to this but, as we have seen, they have not exactly been encouraged by the counties and the ECB.

Growing up in the 80's, we did play cricket in the summer but we still played football as our primary sport. I mean its not like there weren't world cups or the Euros to keep football in our minds during some summers.
Also, more than just a ball was needed to play, and a reasonable amount of room if you didn't want to keep losing the ball. I also don't remember making up games in cricket like we did for football such as 3-and-in or headers and volleys.

Football was undoubtedly the primary sport but many did play cricket too. As indeed you admit yourself. I am just a few years older than you and as well as playing it ourselves I remember seeing games going on all over the place.
It’s almost not an exaggeration to say that no one plays cricket now. I don’t remember the last time I saw anyone playing cricket away from an actual cricket ground. And of course as someone pointed out recently there is a lot less of that as well.

Interesting point to the 1,000 1st class runs in a season reached by Jennings in this match is that he missed the first three games with injury! Wells is about 60 runs short of the same milestone. Both have been good signings by Lancs.

Both have been good signings by Lancs. Agreed. I know I'll have to whisper this very quietly and put the tin hat on, but they were both signed by Paul Allott.

To judge by his commentary on the Yorkshire game last week, Allott is no fool but neither does he appear to be overflowing with diplomatic skills. Without doubt, Wells and Jennings have been very good acquisitions but maybe they wouldn't have been needed if Lancs had had better man-management skills and better batting coaches.
