Essex snitched on Somerset a couple of years ago when the umpires did not report the pitch which was better than this one. They deserve relegating to their own division . Pitches always either appallingly difficult to bat on or too easy . They regularly get the worst marks from the first class umpires.

If Essex win then they will be third and Lancs are unlikely to beat Surrey to overtake them. To Essex this means more prize money....hence the "result" pitch.
Interesting that Essex - with Warks - has the lowest batting points in the Division at 22. Perhaps says something about the Essex pitches...

The Essex commentator mentioned that their tail had done most of their heavy lifting regarding batting this season as their front 6 had been poor. Reed should call out their poor pitch on commentary, but he won't, no stones.

Yes, this pitch may well cost us third place as you feel that if Essex only want 60 or 70 to win then they will just hit out to get them as quickly as possible. If there is a pitch penalty isn't it normally suspended? If Essex pick up 19 points and we just get the 3 I can't see them being too bothered. Interesting Simon Harmer talking on the BBC website about what normally happens on Chelmsford pitches on days three and four. |

The folly of trying to play championship cricket at this time of year being completely exposed both at Chelmsford and Southampton. The policies of the ECB over the last 20/30 years have caused this mess with no sign of any improvement. It's time for genuine cricket lovers, who are in a position to do so, to rise up and oust the vandals at the ECB who have destroyed this great game.

International Fixtures next year out and September will host 10 ODI's so, with the Hundred, that means players disappearing at the end July for the season... |

Sillypoint, is it that preparing a pitch at this time of year is troublesome, or is it that weather conditions at this time of year make batting tough? Is this time of year similar to April? |
