Essex lost the match when they lost the toss. Serves them right for preparing a disintegrating cart track but what has happened to pitch inspections? Not so long ago the inspectors routinely turned up if 16 wickets went down in a day's play. Yesterday an unbelieveable 26 wickets went down but, apparently, no reaction at all. Umpire's mark pitch after every game and this one must get a poor rating. I don't know what happened "a pitch inspector calls" though.Perhaps they don't bother attending in person anymore, now they can watch the stream? Reminds me of a story about Mark Nicholas, might be in his biography. He heard the pitch inspectors were on the way to Basingstoke so instructed his bowlers to take it easy while they were on the ground and then ramp it up again, once they left after a quiet session.

If Lancs are going to be docked points for some obscure disciplinary offence, I missed this when it was announced 10 days ago. They did seem very minor offences.

I don’t think that any dissent against umpires is an obscure offence, no matter how incompetent the umpires are. The level of dissent in league cricket appalls me. Absolutely nothing would persuade me to umpire in league cricket. No player ever thinks he’s out nowadays and when I watch highlights, it’s rare indeed for a player to be given LBW without looking down at the stumps to question where he is.
However, I totally agree that producing pitches unfit for first class cricket is a big offence.

It sounded like he banged his bat down in an incident last year, and then shouted in the dressing room in frustration this year. Seem harsh.
