Not seen any today ; didn’t realise it was on YouTube. Charlie Dagnall talking at the last ever meeting of Merseyside Cricket Society tonight mentioned Surrey have two Aussie and one West Indian seam bowlers. That is a disgrace in my view . I’m beginning to hate what this game is becoming though am looking forward to the league cricket season. From the Somerset Forum tonight, there doesn’t seem to be much optimism that the ground will be playable for our game there in two weeks time. I’ve already got my train tickets😬. There is real anger with the executive there as we have often seen here in the past including about the drainage issue. None of the people at the heads of these organisations ever seem to accept the accountability to go with the big salaries. Fans at Taunton who live very close to the ground accusing the club of lying about biblical rain overnight, They think it won't be fit in two weeks but they are starting at midday today?

Steel I would assume becomes the first player born in San Francisco to score a century at Old Trafford

Phil ; that’s good to hear . There is a sandy stretch apparently at Taunton that people were saying would be a danger to fielders for some time. Hope no one is injured.
Quote from Somerset Forum this morning “Dear old Rob Bailey has not only fallen for the “40 days of rain so what can you do” schtick but has obviously not noticed the Trescothick Beach. Good for him. So, off we go then.”
I guess cricket fans are pessimists the world over!

Switched over twenty minutes ago gifting wickets the Lancashire way, this will take some winning or even drawing

Being thoroughly outplayed in this game: too much loose bowling, too many loose shots. Surrey showed how to bowl on this slow and fairly placid pitch: keep it straight and keep it up to the bat. Even so, 233 for 8 at the close was due at least as much to lack of patience and poor shot selection as to good bowling. Maybe we can stagger to 250 a.o. and then bat properly second time round.

If you look at Surrey, batting in tricky conditions, were 164 for 5 off 53 overs and Lancs, batting in much easier conditions, were 182 for 5 off 54 overs. Vilas unlucky in playing on but Croft being caught on the boundary not a nice sight.
We've no player like Steel lower down the order and you can see Surrey are much stronger team. We needed Mahmood's bowling.
Pity that a game between last season's top teams is becoming so one sided....

Our back-up bowling wasn't strong enough and was not at all suited to the slow pitch but the real problem was batters getting themselves out against bowling that was highly disciplined but not especially threatening.

Fair summary, although Jennings's "we've probably made some errors" is a massive understatement! By my reckoning, five of the eight Lancs wickets to fall were given away (Bohannon, Croft, Vilas, Wood, Bailey).

Yes - great decision by Burns got us off to a flyer. De Grandhomme and Williams showed how to bat on this pitch and got us within sniffing distance of an undeserved but vital draw. Surrey not getting away at all in their second innings (so far).

Much improved performance from Lancs today:bowled with more discipline and batted out the last 11 overs without any trouble. Surrey may come to regret leaving it so late to declare but it's a pity we have no realistic chance of winning.

Not really seen much as I don’t like watching third innings when there has been a big lead . Good to see early season wickets for Parky though was it just Surrey trying to move it along. He did seem to be being written off a bit last year.
What was our captaincy like when they put on nearly 100 for last two wickets? Was it the usual tactic that has failed so many times?

Wicket seems to be playing ok after three days but it's a big ask to bat all day to save the game. Odds on a Surrey win..
