A couple of scary moments but the target was always too low for Hants to defend. Good to see Vilas get some runs at last - looked a bit uncomfortable against Organ at first but worked out a way of playing him. Really surprised that Crane and, especially, Dawson didn't bowl but maybe the latter didn't feel up to it after the nasty facial injury. I think we would have won anyway as the only serious threat seemed to be the ball spitting out of Barker's rough and Organ didn't have enough skill to exploit it without giving away cheap runs. Different at Aigburth last year where the pitch was a real bunsen.
We had a bit of luck in this game: Gubbins clearly wasn't out in the first innings and Dawson's second innings dismissal was pretty dubious but I suppose we've had enough bad calls from Mallender to be due a bit of compensation...
Don't think preferring Hartley to Parkinson was the right call.

Think we’ll be back down to 7th when the others have their points added on, but a game in hand on most.

Don't think preferring Hartley to Parkinson was the right call. Totally agree about Parky. A spin attack of Hartley plus our part timers lacks the necessary penetration. As the season continues the spinners will come into play more. I know Hartley has made useful contributions with the bat in previous games but you need to have an attack capable of taking 20 wickets.

TBH Morley is a better spin option than Hartley, but he isn't much of a batsman from what I remember- but would be alot better at exploiting a turning pitch.

No point picking a bowler for his batting if he can't take wickets. Hartley hasn't found much form yet - keeps bowling too short - but when he does he'll still be essentially a defensive bowler whose main value in 1st class cricket is to tie down an end, rather than an attacking bowler who gets people out. Not being a great batter has never prevented J.M.Anderson from being selected! Parkinson has played one 1st class match - against Surrey - in which he took 6 wickets, 5 of them in the second innings, but hasn't been selected since. Doesn't make sense.

Yes I went to that game earlier in the season. Surrey were very aggressive against him and the pitch was pretty flat, but he bowled ok and was then dropped unceremoniously. I know Wellsy can bowl some decent leg-spin but he isn't a specialist.
Morley and Parky on that wicket would of been a handful. Maybe Bell if he isn't keeping can work on his off spin to turn it the other way!

20 point gap between Lancs and Kent who are next to bottom and with a game in hand. Quite congested in the middle of the pack.

Anyway, according to my reckoning Lancashire have played 22 players in first team competitions this season and this is a team they could have picked from those NOT PLAYING in the Hampshire game:- Jennings Wells Buttler Croft Livingstone De Grandhomme Lamb Wood Mahmood Anderson Parkinson It shows what a strong squad we have; it's just up to the coach and captain to pick the right ones.
