This could be a watershed moment for Chilton & Chapple. Lack of planning for backup bowling is costing us. I dread to think what would happen if Bailey and/or Williams got injured. Blatherwick not good enough and bowling far too many no-balls.
Team selection also baffling. It seems there is an unwritten rule that you can't leave out your overseas players but this is a season too far for Vilas and CDG is completely out of form. Whilst Balderson hasn't bowled well recently, he did really well replacing Jennings with the bat and should have played in place of Jones.
With the departure of Parkinson, and to a lesser extent Lamb, who might have bowled well on this pitch, signs that all is not well at the club.
We are relying on a few players to carry us at the moment and that's not sustainable. Fully expect us to lose this game and we could be looking downwards rather than upwards in the table.
Whenever a side goes backwards you have to question the management.

Just read Paul Edwards's report for Cricinfo which makes no bones about the gulf in class between the two sides. How the team responds today will be a marker for the rest of the season.

Yes I read that Exile but not sure I agree about a difference in class. Lancs have competed pretty well against Essex in recent years and the comparison he makes of number of championships won is fatuous as Essex is England’s driest county and rig their pitches whereas we play on a bowlers graveyard in a wet county . Much more a case of scrambled thinking by management.
A rare case of Paul Edwards falling prey to the modern trend of overemphasising the latest result. Presumably when Lancs bowled Essex out of 20 in 2013 and beat them at Chelmsford last year , there was a temporary suspension of that class?

Yeah, and what about the gulf in class when Lancs put Surrey to the sword on their own pitch a few weeks back? I'm agreeing with most here, some baffling stuff going on and it usually starts at the top. Who and how can Lancs get rid of Chapple and Chilton? Who decides their fate?

I completely agree, Des, about the fatuous comment at the end. Also, Essex won most of their championships in the later stages of the three day version, which, rightly or wrongly, Lancs didn't prioritise. However, I don't think Edwards was suggesting a gulf in class between the two counties - just between the two sides fielded for this match. I think yesterday was one of the worst displays I can ever remember by Lancs in a four day match where the outcome mattered. At least today, touch wood, we seem to have remembered how to bat. If we get to lunch one down, touch more wood, it could be an interesting afternoon.

Blackpool seems to have lost contact with us....Video feed frozen and radio link silent....Lancs past a 100 with one down so good start...

Well I suspect that went better than any of us would have expected.
I’m pretty certain that 290 in 64 overs is beyond us, but hopefully we aren’t going to lose nine wickets.

2 more down another disaster for Vilas. Needs to be dropped.

The Essex commentator Dick something just said "The bookies would make Lancashire favourites at this stage but if wickets fell things would swing back to Essex, Lancashire only need one boundary an over". What planet is he on???

Lancs need nearly 5 an over right? Highly unlikely. I wish we'd put this much effort in earlier in the match.
