I completely agree, Des, about the fatuous comment at the end. Also, Essex won most of their championships in the later stages of the three day version, which, rightly or wrongly, Lancs didn't prioritise. However, I don't think Edwards was suggesting a gulf in class between the two counties - just between the two sides fielded for this match. I think yesterday was one of the worst displays I can ever remember by Lancs in a four day match where the outcome mattered. At least today, touch wood, we seem to have remembered how to bat. If we get to lunch one down, touch more wood, it could be an interesting afternoon. How about: cricketarchive.com/Lancashire/Scorecards/316/316410.html I seem to remember that Worcestershire were pretty near bottom of the table at that time, in the end of course it all turned out well

I can’t get that one Chris ; behind the paywall. Was that the 2011 game at Worcester? I may still have my scorecard from there.

Sensible batting from Salt and Jones, who have kept it ticking over without taking risks. On the whole, one of our better days with the bat. I wouldn't blame Jennings or Wells too much for their dismissals. The balls was there for Jennings to hit but it just bounced a fraction higher than he was expecting. Even so, nine times out of ten Buttleman wouldn't have caught it. Wells maybe shouldn't have tried a reverse sweep but it was right to keep the score moving and not try to drop anchor. As with Jennings, it just bounced a bit. Surely Vilas now has to have a spell in the seconds (or the nets). Just like in the first innings, he was too anxious to get off the mark, and played a late innings T20 kind of shot. Bohannon was suckered and should have known better.
Essential for Jones and Salt to be still together for the next 16 overs, when the new ball becomes due.

Thanks Colin and p… off. Incredibly casual innings . I suppose if you have that style and are a bit out of form , it can look really bad.

136 needed at just under five per over, but only four wickets left.
Tactics now?
